Would you say i am in need of a new mac or not?
i am currently running an eMac 1.25 superdrive with AE and Bluetooth and 768 MB ram
the maximum ram stated by apple for this machine is 1GB but OWC has 1 GB sticks and says it will go to 2 GB
what is the quality of their ram

my problem is frequently my ram is being devoured by safari
i have 62456/77273 page in's page outs not really shure if that is acceptable
but i frequently get spinning beachballs that last several minutes once or twice a day causing me to force quit
throughout the day i usually have two windows open with tabs

now less than a year ago this computer was pretty quick, not fast but quick
but since the new OS updates among others it has been dragging by at half speed

should i put another 400 dollars into this old horse for more memory ilife 06 and leopard when it comes out
or buy a cheaper imac because my emac is on its last leg considering the transition

Have you tried emptying the safari cache or reseting it. look on the apple k-base or search the forums about it. there are several things, I just don't remember, that you can do when safari gets slow.

I usually empty and reset pretty frequently but lately i havent been well because i get tired of typing my id to get into every forum every day
but ill give it a shot
you think a 1gb stick along with the 512 i own will make a noticible difference?
boosting it from 768 to 1.5 GB
this thing is just acting like the internet is giving it a workout
and thats shamefull

Try installing Mozilla Caminio and see how that works.

You may also want to run something like Main Menu or Tiger Cache Cleaner
to clean all your caches.

Safari is a RAM hog and even worse when you're on dialup.

But, I also suspect that some of these beach ball events may be the firewall
doing it's job.

There's a lot of crap out there trying to ping our systems

The new lineup is amazing, but I'd just hang in there "as is" until you can buy
a Leopard machine.

Roger!
well im not on dial up but you have a good point
waiting always sucks but is better in the long run that 24 is looking prety Tasty!
a long as it still turns on ill keep using it

We won't hold it against you if you cave before Leopard debuts. ;)

If you have a friend or family member that would benefit from trouble free
computing, you're eMac will certainly make someone very happy.

I thought about donating my G3 to my mom's nursing home.

yeah i want to give it to my parents maybe i can sway my stepdad away from the darkside
my mom allways wanted to use an apple but my s-dad keeps bringing these emachine POS home ..well they do have a sony but trying to Burn a dvd on that thing is harder than rebuilding a carburetor all that DRM theyre famous 4
my sister will probably give it more use though

I'm spoiled rotten with this Dell 24" display and my G5.

The 24" iMac loaded will cost you less than I paid for my system
and be faster.

Just bought a Macbook for my oldest daughter.

Bought an iBook last fall for her sister starting college.

The youngest gets a MacBook too as soon as I can.

I get an Octa Core Pro Tower some time around 2010
