I'm the co-founder at pwnGuide.com and we're reaching out to the gaming community to get some feedback on our site. Basically, we feel that users like yourself, who spend a lot of time writing game guides should be rewarded for the hard work. We feel that actions speak louder than words. So we're putting our money where our mouth is and sharing our ad revenue with the users who make our site what it is, the guide writers. We hope this will lead to a stronger community of gamers and give guide writers the compensation and recognition that they deserve.

What do you guys think of this idea? Do you ever use game guides when you play games? Do you ever write game guides? If so, would you consider posting on our site? I'd really love to get feedback from you guys!

Usually i just go to gamefaqs.com or do a google search if i have a question about a game.

I don't write game guides, but if I did, I guess I'd consider posting it to your site. I'd still be allowed to post it to other places too, right?

Yea, of course. The authors retain all copyright and can do whatever they want with their works.

Theres a dude at PCgameworld.com who writes guides as a hobby and posts them in the forum over there, and nowhere else. He does it for fun.

Try him
Thanks I'll see if I can contact him. Yea, from feedback I've gotten, it seems that most people post these guides for fun to the general public and are not necessarily looking to make money. We have some features in the pipeline that we hope will create a strong community without the negatives that other gaming sites have (I know, a big goal).

I'd love to hear any other feedback (good or bad) or ideas from you guys!

GOOD
- COD4 challenge guide looks good.

BAD
- Opened 2 guides. One worked, the other didn't (flash fail?).
- In addition, what's with the tiny readable frame?

with Gamefaqs.com, the files are universal text files (no need flash), can be downloaded to view offline.

It'll be hard to compete with that.

Thanks for replying. I appreciate the feedback!

The reason we're using flash is that we support other file types and various other features.

Here are the types of files we support:
Adobe PDF (.pdf)
Adobe PostScript (.ps)
Microsoft Word (.doc)
Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt, .pps)
Microsoft Excel (.xls)
OpenOffice Text Document (.odt, .sxw)
OpenOffice Presentation Document (.odp, .sxi)
OpenOffice Spreadsheet (.ods, .sxc)
All OpenDocument formats
Plain text (.txt)
Rich text format (.rtf)

We feel that in the future guides may evolve from being purely txt based to rich content with screenshots and such.

You are able to view the guide in full-screen by clicking the button on the upper right (although, I agree with you the size is small now and will be changed when we update the design). You can also zoom in using the options, as well as search and view the files without downloading them (if they are powerpoint or microsoft word for instance). Do any of these features make the site more attractive to you?

We're also thinking about adding a download link, but that depends more on the guide-writers.

Also, the error you got occurs when the file has just been uploaded and has not had time to process. It is usually resolved within 2-3 minutes by itself.

iPhone/iPod Touch compatibility would go a long way. I don't have a computer in my living room so it's good to just whip out the ol' iPod and check out gamefaqs.

Hmm, thanks for the feedback. I would personally also like an iPhone version too. We're aiming at releasing a new design soon, maybe we'll postpone it a bit to include an iPhone-specific version as well.

Is there any specific functionality you want to see for the iPhone version? Videos, searching of the text, a way to skip to various sections quickly?
