I have been using the Mozilla Firefox add-on, FireShot, for a couple of years now, and love it to death. (It PDF's webpages and includes clickable links so you can basically get an exact snapshot of a webpage.)

Unfortunately it looks like the developers finally want to get paid, and I am getting messages that a paid version is coming soon.

Here is my question...

Would you trust your bank details with a company based in Russia?

Sorry, but when I think of Russia, the first thing that comes to mind is "hackers" - that and murderous Vladimir Putin.

At the same time, the FireShot app is in the Apple store, so that should count for something.

There is nothing close to what FireShot does, and I use it all day long for work, so it's really important to me.

I am happy to buy a license, but feel a little nervous putting card details into their website.

Thoughts?

I often do not trust my bank details with a company based in the US of A 🤷‍♂️

It's really a personal, subjective choice.

Trust your gut, Ambrosia ;)
I just do not understand the phrase "bank details". At worst, you are giving away your credit card number. Credit cards have fraud protection and they can reverse any transaction you did not authorize. The risk is very low. But NEVER give over a debit card. They typically have no protection at all and transactions are just like cash transactions.

Buy from Apple's app store. or as said, you do not need an app to save a web page as a PDF.

Aye; yet Routing/CC/DBt issued from Source are essentially one, and the same.

That (and yours) being said, "Would you trust your bank details..." was the Thesis 🤷‍♂️

No they are not. if you buy from Apple no one but Apple sees any of your data. The software company is paid by Apple.

A CC number is different from a debit number in that CC companies protect the buyer and there is no risk even if the card number is posted on the Internet for everyone to see.

Giving someone actual routing numbers is the same as adding their name to your account. You would have to trust them.

Yes, all the numbers point to the same money but the rules governing the transaction are different based on how it is done.

As an example, I went out to dinner once and then later found my CC did not work. Why. It seems the waiter while he had my card in hard tried to buy $10,000 worth of women's clothes from a wholesaler. My bank's software flagged this as unusual based on my past use of the card and automatically disabled by CC. Banks will do this kind of thing with a CC because they themselves could be liable for the money due to the fraud protection policy (this is required by law)

I would t be concerned about my CC card especially if your bank allows you to create a disposable one.

What I would be concerned about is the extension probably having access to every(?) page you visit. I’m very skeptical of browser extensions.

You mentioned this was an add on. Is that different from an extension? Hoping I don’t sound dumb…

Right.

Well, thanks to the Pandemic - and certain people who I will not mention - I no longer have credit cards. Thus my concern...

And, fwiw, in the U.S., there ARE laws that protect you from debit card fraud, HOWEVER, it is much more of a hassle to try to get your $$$ back if someone cleans out your bank account versus they try to screw your credit card company.

Apparently you cannot buy the paid version from the Apple App Store...

You are protected with debit cards in the U.S. too, but as I said before, the difference is that if something goes south with a debit card, you have to wait for the bank to give you your $$$ back, whereas with a credit card, it is the credit card company's $$$ so less hassle.

No, not true.

Same applies to debit cards.

In fact, my bank regularly blocks me from using my own debit card and bank account, but that is another conversation!! *LOL*

Valid point.

Vladimir Putin now know **every** website and webpage I have visited over the last 4 years!!

If there was, I wouldn't be here.

If someone knows of one, then please do tell.

What I NEED is a way to take an EXACT snapshot of any webpage (i.e. content, page layout, images, etc) and also have working links in the end PDF.

I spend 3-4 hours per day reading the news and researching things, and I use these PDF's for my research, and to do further research while at the same time taking snapshots of the space-time continuum!!

Adobe Acrobat Professional would probably do the same of better job, BUT Adobe is on par with Vladimir Putin, so it's a matter of "picking your poison"!!

At least "Vlad" doesn't charge me a never-ending monthly subscription... ;-)

OMG! I just wasted all morning trying to buy this Firefox add-on.

Ultimately paid using my old stagnant PayPal account, so that should offer me some extra protection.
