Wouldnt Apple "have" to announce an iPhone for Verizon soon?

Since the Nexus One is coming to more carriers, they might be forcing Apples hand a bit... The Nexus One didnt do too well in sales so far because its on T-Mobile. Since Verizon is releasing it this spring sometime, Apple will most likely try to cannibalize sales by announcing a Verizon phone for a June release. This would stop people from buying the Nexus one for sure...

This is a win win for Apple. They will pretty much dominate the market from here on out. I switched to Verizon in November and its been great!

True lol... people would probably just buy it anyway :) It would be good for both carriers for Verizon to get it really. Less traffic for AT&T, and more options for Verizon.

Honestly dont think it will happen though... just a gut feeling.
 
I would think Apple would have to announce it soon to keep people from buying the droid/nexus one/Palm. My guess is there will be a Verizon iPhone this year, but we won't hear about it on the 27th.
 
Most predictions suggest that the new tablet will be offered through multiple carriers including Verizon. The iPhone will most likely remain just on AT+T due to the AT+T contract.
 
There is more than likely an agreement between VZW and Apple to NOT announce the VZW iPhone early. By announcing the iPhone early it hurts VZW chances of selling their current smart phones now and the near future, gaining that revenue months before the iPhone comes to VZW at the end of the 2nd quarter.

The "five years" that was originally widely reported, came from a Verizon executive's comment making fun of the idea that people would want to get "stuck on ATT for five years". It was never believable to anyone in the business.

When the 3G came out, AT&T announced that the first model's contract was over, letting us know that the contract for the first model was only for a year... a far more believable term.

At that time, "AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) today announced it will be the exclusive U.S. provider of the new iPhone 3G..." and said they'd signed another contract without revenue sharing, but with customer subsidies.

It was widely expected (and reported) that the 3G/3GS exclusivity was for two years, which would end this summer. Other reports of ATT wanting to extend exclusivity support this idea, along with the ATT CEO talking about life after Apple.

Unfortunately, not until the iPhone hits Verizon.

Personally, I hope that happens very soon for two reasons:

1. All the people that have crappy AT&T service (fortunately I'm not one of them) can get an iPhone on Verizon and have a whole new network to bitch about, and
2. AT&T's network will be "snappier" because there will be fewer iPhone users

Verizon would skip HSPDA entirely and go for LTE. No reason to start building a GSM network when LTE will supersede both CMDA and GSM technologies up to this point.
 
There is *NO* HSPA activity in Verizon, and there will never be any.

VzW is firmly committed to two things:

1) The existing CDMA/EVDO network.

2) LTE

They (well, actually their vendors) will also be working on handoffs between CDMA/DO and LTE. Down the road they'll figure out how to handle voice on LTE, my guess is that they'll offer multi-mode handsets that use the CDMA network for voice (also called Circuit-Switched Fallback, or CSFB).

End of story.
 
They might have to announce it a little ahead of time to avoid the news leaking from the FCC approval process for a CMDA iPhone. That's why they preannounced the original iPhone, after all.

I doubt the Nexus One would make any difference to Apple's release/announcement plans (it hasn't been selling that well anyway, right?).

back on topic, the Nexus One is no more of a threat than any other previous "iPhone killer". Ya it has features that the iPhone doesn't, but so has every other phone that's come out since the iPhone's launch, and none have done as well as any of the iPhone models. And after the smear campaign that Verizon began, Apple is probably stick with AT&T

Already figured out and demonstrated a couple of years ago, although the first one on the actual Verizon LTE network was done last August.

Down the road they'll figure out how to handle voice on LTE,

Most LTE users, including Verizon, agreed on a voice standard a few months ago.

Yep, I think they're already being used in testing the LTE networks in Boston, Seattle and other cities.

That was simply Jobs' excuse. They could've kept the FCC submittal private right up to just before sales launch if they'd wished. Apple preannounced the first iPhone to build hype, to give people a chance to get off their contracts, and to try to shunt aside any publicity for other finger-friendly and multi-touch phones that were trying to get noticed around the same time.

Anyway, no they don't have to, the iphone has something no other phone has the majority of the MINDSHARE. Why else would basically every other company be trying to make their own copy of it? (points to palm for trying something different)

Honestly, I really doubt the iPhone will come to Verizon until a 4th revision of the iPhone is out(or iPhone OS 5.0 is out). Verizon was said to have been testing GMRS in select cities, versus their normal CMDA. So far nothing of this has sprouted up again, so that leads me to believe that they arent supporting it, or havent made any progress on the matter. Personally, I could care less if the iPhone reached Verizon. My contract with them ends later this year (iirc) and by that time, I'll be with AT&T or T-Mobile. Verizon is crap.
