I think it would be so revolutionary and beat Microsoft's next Xbox (the one after 360) to death. Thoughts?

It's called the Pippin and it's never happening again.

Thread OVER.

Or, rather, it's called the iPhone/iPod touch platform and it's not progressing beyond that.

Don't underestimate the AppleTV. It may not be the powerhouse to match PS3 or XBOX 360 but I wouldn't be surprised if they started putting a few games on here and there as time goes on, until before we know it there is another iPod touch/iPhone games type situation.

I actually think that it may happen, but perhaps intergrated into apple TV.

Apple MAY market it as playing games like the iPod Touch, however it may not gain the respect from serious hard core gamers.

Just look at how "amazing" playing games is on the Mac...

Apple have tried and failed creating a games console. This will be a complete disaster unless they reduce the pricing of all their overpriced products and they'd have to do some real decent research!

...all their overpriced products...

it would be too overpriced, period!

Let's get a proper definition, shall we? Overpriced means that the product is beyond your means to purchase. As in, you don't have enough money to buy it. You both have Apple products, thus you either do not think they are overpriced, or you have more money than sense (and are not hinderd by price anyway).

Not necessarily. Overpriced can mean that it is priced higher than we believe it should be based on what value it brings us (graphic capability, game library, etc). I can easily afford to buy a PlayStation 3, but I haven't. The games do not appeal to me. Apple would need to build extremely low end, cheap hardware (AppleTV may fit the bill) or else sell the console for a loss as Microsoft and Sony do. Selling things at a loss is not something Apple is known for though :D

I'd agree with previous comments, the iPhone/iPod touch and perhaps the AppleTV are as close to a game console that we'll ever see from Apple. They will never make a dedicated unit again... RIP Pippin.

Well, remember that the :apple:tv is just a modified Mac mini underneath, so Mac developers won't have that much trouble making games for it. And remember, they could use iPhones/iPod touches for controllers, like a four player split screen Super Monkey Ball which uses four iPhones/iPod touches to control them. Imagine having Apple TV as almost like a TV screensaver, giving weather, news, music, slideshows and so on in the background, or being a full internet device for your TV, controlled from your couch by your iPhone/iPod touch. If his were to happen, Apple would have to start selling :apple:tvs with iPod touches, so you could start with it all as soon as you got it.

Only way I can see Apple doing well on Video Game Console market is if they team up with Nintendo.

Apple + Nintendo = Wii TV. Imagine a Will with hard drive that can access iTunes. :D
