WoW Airport Disconnect Issue

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up who possibly could be interested in buying a mac to play wow on there is an issue where you will suddenly lose your airport or wired internet connection and be forced to reboot. Its extremely inconvienent when it happens and after 2+ weeks of people asking for answers there is still no response. They finally have started a "info gathering" thread so if you are experiencing any disconnect problems please go there and post your log entries. This is a mac only issue with mb's and mbp's. Some say its hardware related. My take on the subject is that the audio stream in becomes corrupted and osx cuts off the connection to avoid kernel panic.

FWIW I have been playing WoW (10-man Kara raids and the like) on my SR MBP and haven't had any serious disconnection issues, either on my wlan (buffalo 11g router w/DD-WRT installed), or using a HSPDA (3.5G cellular) modem on the go. However, with OSX 10.4.10 installed I was having frequent wifi disconnects that required a reboot to re-establish a stable connection; this was solved by reinstalling 10.4.9. If this isn't your problem, then it must be in the Airport and not the MBP.

There are several topics all over the internet that conclude that the airport drivers are faulty when connected to certain routers. The problem seems to occur more often when the macs are on battery-power...
Apple hasn't made an official statement yet :-/

Im not sure if its faulty routing, if its a heat issue, if its an audio hardware/driver issue, if its an airport hardware/driver issue but it surely is a problem. If you are one of the lucky ones that it doesnt happen to then good for you but there still are those of us who suffer from the disconnection plague. I did get a patch today (also maintence day) so hopefully something has been attempted as far as a fix.

Question: If i suffer from disconnects and airport problems requiring reboot and others dont. Can i have applecare replace the airport hardware? Would they do such a thing? Or would my hardware test ok and thus no replacement. I can take in the mb and repeat the problem but I would have to be playing WoW at the genius bar...

I WoW on my 2.4 SR MBP over WiFi and have had no problems. I use Linksys equipment.

I would imagine that your issue is not connected to WoW in as much as the load it puts onto the networking hardware/software. It's certainly worth speaking to Apple about it.
