WOW am I tired of iDisk not syncing properly!

This feature of MobileMe is unusable for me as it just stops working randomly. Meaning, my data will just stop syncing to the MobileMe iDisk site. The iDisk on my MBP is always up to date, but the site online will not update. I've talked to tech support and the 'fix' is time consuming and hassle and only 'fixes' until it happens again in a month or whenever. (btw, the fix is to delete everything from iDisk, stop syncing, start syncing, then load everything back onto iDisk)

I love the feature, but if it doesn't ALWAYS work, then I can't depend on it and therefore cannot use it. I'm a professor and doctoral student, I need my info on iDisk and love the way it SHOULD sync with my macbook pro.

Btw, we all know the service is overpriced as it is (my opinion). It's not worth it for free if it doesn't work.

I know, with MobileMe I never have to save anything to iDisk. I have alias folders so files automatically save to iDisk with no effort from me. Drop box would mean I manually have to upload items, right? That's what makes MMe to attractive...makes Dropbox seem so last year.

It creates a folder to your Mac and you can simply drag the files you want to upload to that folder and they'll automatically be uploaded. I find it very easy for sharing files, I always upload my school stuff there so in case I need it. BTW, how much space you need? Is 2GB sufficient?

2GB would be enough. I'll have to look into Dropbox more to see how it works. I'm done fighting with MMe iDisk.

with dropbox for ease you just make it your source for files. not a big deal not using the default apps folder but you can put it in dropbox. what dropbox lets you do is share folders with others if you want and it also has a public folder. you put a file in it right click and you get a url to give to others. this is great for sharing files. my only complaint is with the iphone version it only lets me upload one picture at a time.

I use a combination of Dropbox/iDisk.

As a student, I keep all my school documents in Dropbox and personals in iDisk. So far it has worked out really well for me. I highly recommend Dropbox. I have never had a problem syncing data between computers. It's nice you can view documents on iPhone/iPad too.

I love being an irritating Apple cheerleader when their products are better, but DropBox kicks the living crap out of iDisk, and that is sad.

I gave up on iDisk too for the same reason. As for Dropbox, just store your files in the Dropbox folder that it creates, and they're automatically synced to all your other computers. Syncing is instantaneous. I've watched this thing work for months, and it literally starts syncing the file the SECOND you've saved changes to it. I use spotlight to open most documents so it doesn't even matter to me that some of my files are stored outside their usual folder structure, which is an issue that concerned me at first. Oh, one more big advantage to Dropbox vs. iDisk (as if the better performance alone weren't enough): if you store your files on iDisk, you have no protection against accidental deletion, because once you delete something from your iDisk and it syncs the delete to all your computers, it's gone. There's no automatic iDisk backup and (I think) no versioning support. Dropbox on the other hand, includes as part of the free service version control, and if you backup your computer(s) using Time Machine, the Dropbox folder is included in the Time Machine backup by default... so much better protection for important files. You could of course keep two versions of your files with iDisk, one on iDisk and one in its original location on your computer, but that to my mind introduces other problems like having to keep track of multiple versions of files in different locations and having to manually remember to drag them to and from the iDisk folder... yuk.
