Wow FIX For Whine, CPU Temp for MBP

Now if only their was documentation on what this file did and how...

Okay got a little too excited and posted as fast as I could... so I ran it to see my temps and I have no idea how accurate it is but wow if it is my thing is running hot!!

58-60 C Idle
92 after a 30 seconds
Fans start to kick in
88 C after 1 minute
Fans are still on and after 5 minutes or so it stays at a steady 83C
Kill proccess drops to 70 and eventually back to 58.

this is when running two instances of yes > /dev/null through the terminal.
 
I am afraid it is C. People over at the apple forums are getting similar numbers. However these numbers are in "spec" i guess since the proccessor can get up to 100C? Some people are getting 60-70's in full loads as well so there are some discrepencies between everyones MBP obviously.
 
This Guy found out if you reduce the thermal paste used by Apple that your MBP will run much cooler. It will void your warranty, but he got it to work.

It only voids the warranty if you break something. Yeah he was saying it went from about 135F to about 100F. Results vary depending on how bad of a job they did applying it.

For now it just shows you details of your processor, speed, heat, etc. This guy has been working on it for a while and I guess eventually he is trying to have a better solution to the power management on the MBP.

No such thing as 100 degree C electronic components. Even 80C is a stretch and used only in military applications.
 
Too bad this wasn't available before I fixed the thermal paste in my MBP.

Now, when running at full load (double "yes > /dev/null" running), the temperature on mine goes up to about 70 degrees with the fans running. When idle it's 48-50 degrees.

What do you mean? How does this help people get temperatures as cool as yours without opening it up? Does it allow you to actually change settings or just view them?
 
The guy seems to have identified several areas in the kernel that are "lacking" and thinks Apple may be working on addressing them to control the while.

He also states that the MBP firmware update did something to the ACPI tables causing the MBP to run a little cooler on the three machines that he tested. ::shrug::
 
I wish I knew a way just to make the fans come on at "lower" temperatures. Even though the extra thermal grease can't get rid of heat quite as fast as pure metal can, it should make at least the underside as cool as those people who actually ripped theirs apart.

It's not. But I'd wished that I could've measured the temperatures before fixing it. That way I'd know the difference it made. Now I can only feel that it's cooler, but I have no real evidence :)
 
Ok after reapplying the thermal compound here are my new numbers, look above for my old numbers:

Idle: 45
Ran yes > /dev/null for a few minutes : 75-81

Wow big difference. Overall my entire laptop is cooler, the bar above the f keys is cooler, the speakers aren't hot. The bar is very cool now, not uncomftorable at all before I could not put my fingers on it for more than 10 seconds. Thanks everyone, I'm loving it!!
