After using iOS 7 for a few days, I've realized that wallpaper choice makes a big difference in how appealing the icons look. If the wallpaper is heavily textured, like the "Tiki God Carving" wallpaper, the icons look rather garish.

Using the starry sky wallpaper, though, the icons look rather vibrant and beautiful. In the GM, I hope they tone down the green neon a bit, as in the Messages, Phone, and FaceTime icons.

One thing I do worry about is the lack of button outlines in the top menu bar buttons of certain apps. Not so much for stock apps that we're used to, but newly developed apps. It may be hard for some users to distinguish between plain text and clickable text. Personally I think that's where buttons are naturally useful, just like having hyperlinks in blue underlined font is useful. It's a paradigm that all Internet users are used to. For example, in certain lighting conditions outside, it may be hard to see the yellow "New" button in the upper righthand corner of the Notes app. Likewise, a new user might wonder, "Is it clickable?"

Overall, the new features in iOS 7 are a very welcome addition.

Surely if you're suggesting we should not air negative opinions about certain aspects of the beta the same goes for positive opinions? After all - it is common to see a feature dropped from betas - so what is the point of airing any opinions at all?

While I agree there is no point criticising crashes, performance problems etc I think it is valid to give feedback with regards to aspects that are typically baked in by the time alpha testing is done and the beta program is initiated.

Since 2008 I can't think of any examples whereby major design changes have occurred during a beta programs. To be honest I cannot even recall an example of an icon changing other than something minor. I would say the considered opinion of the Dev community is that the design of the OS is baked in, and aside from minor changes (which even then, will be very unusual) we are looking at the near end product (design wise).

With that in mind I think it is fair to voice opinions about the design and to be honest most of the criticism I've seen in these forums concerns design choices.

That's what beta is for. To test out the product and give feedback. And feedback is being given.

If you want anything to change, now is the time to change it.

I have been very critical of iOS 7 but it could be a really good software upgrade with some design tweaks. There are many good features and some great ui choices like the Gaussian blur background for drop down notification menu, control center, keyboard and pop up alerts. I would appreciate these design tweaks.

1. New app icons.
2. The same dark folder look as in OSX Mavericks.
3. Drop shadow for top navigational bars.
4. Bold text for app names.
5. New design for notes app. Maybe similar to the Vesper app?
6. Curved corners for settings boxes.
7. More transparency for the dock.
8. Two pages for control center. Swipe to the right to get slider for brightness and buttons for airplay, airdrop toggles.
9. Removed magnifier glass from search boxes.
10. Instead of swiping to the right to answer you have to swipe up.
11. Notification banners should have a drop from the top animation and then slide up again.
12. Swipe to dismiss items in notification drop down menu.
13. Better font color matching dependency on backgrounds.
14. Circular border for the + sign. < symbol before all links that leads to prior menus.
15. Nicer clocks in clocks app.
16. Results in bold text when you search in spotlight.
17. Colored line instead of strokes in volume screen animation.
18. Clear all button in notification drop down menu.
19. Silver or black status bar.
20. Grey toggles instead of green.
21. Square buttons for dialer and login.
22. New drag to refresh animation. Maybe an animation that builds a square symbol. When you start only the right side is visible. If you complete the action a square box with 4 sides is created.
23. Gaussian blur background in set up pages like in Siri or drop down notification menu.
24. Swipe up lock menu to unlock the device. Camera icon could be placed under the clock in a large filled circle. More shortcuts for apps could also be visible. Start camera by swiping it thru the circle. Start notes, reminder or maps the same way.
25. New design for uipicker roller.

Idiots on the Internet are idiots in real life.

Sorry, didn't read all 6 pages of this, but from what I've seen, my view is that iOS7 is functionally brilliant, but a visual disaster zone. Ive put marketing in charge of human interface design and the result was no better than one would expect.

Visual aesthetics were Jobs's domain, and most likely anyone with a competing vision was driven out of the company. As a result there is no one left to fill Jobs's role as the chief arsehole when it comes to saying "This is ****!" to bad visual design. That's my theory at least, could be totally wrong and I hope I am.

Totally agree. Great functionality, visually piss poor. Look at all the comments on the net, it's enough to say they haven't got it right.

Those who blindly defend apple without any comments/input of their own are just kool aid fans.

One would think they're trying to market it to a younger audience. That's all I can think of.

My real fear is that iOS has lost it's corporate look. Imagine iOS7 in the office.

If iOS had what you call a "corporate" look, it was unintentional. That was not Jobs and Forstall's guiding light, so to speak. For the vast majority of people, how professional their phone looks is of little importance. If that's important to you, I hear BlackBerry has some new phones out...

So saying "iOS 7 is trash" is a valid comment that should be taken into account, but "iOS 7 is awesome" is automatically a comment from a kool-aid fan.

If that's what you're trying to say, let me simplify your comment: "Anyone who disagrees with me is stupid".

Didn't you get banned?

I think there's definitely a glitch or something because when I log in it says I'm banned, but then when I refresh, I'm not banned. Either way, I was never given any reason for a banning and I'm trying to have a conversation so I've talked to admin about it.

Well, it's funny you say that because it's pretty much like this, the iPhone is the new Blackberry. It's an all in one, and it had an elegance that can't be explained in a few words.

But I always take a look at iPhone in Business page at Apple.com and seeing iOS 7 troubles me if only for a moment.

I know some people that have said iOS 7 is awesome. I could agree somewhat. I can kind of get into it. But there will be more suprises down the road.

I see what you're saying. iOS 7 probably doesn't sit well right now with business-type people, but hopefully it will both grow on them and Apple will refine the design to remove some of the "growing edges", so to speak.

So what do you think of this?

I was told this was the real thing.

Just when I thought I'd seen it all.

You know what this reminds me of? You know WordArt from Microsoft Word? Remember WordArt?

That's what this looks like.

very true. i don't understand why apple choose that wallpaper as there main one. that is the only thing i don't like about iOS 7

A part of me thinks it was done out of pure spite, they couldn't be this inept.

It just can't be!
