When I heard about iOS 7 I just had to try it for myself I wanted to know if it was as good as people say. It's not bad. Only Apple would make something like this.

It will fit right in.

Overall iOS 7 is fine, a nice little refresh rather than a completely new OS.

It does have bugs as to be expected at this stage and I'd like for everything to remain intuitive as in previous versions of iOS (there are times when it seems a little style-over-substance which can seem a little more Android than iOS) but it's an improvement in as much as it's new which was needed.

The icons are the main point of disagreement and while many fanboys will say they look great and it doesn't matter, actually it does as it makes up a large part of the look and feel for a new iOS. They can and may well be improved to avoid looking tacky but I think the direction is set so wouldn't expect a complete overhaul. An important point is that they (Apple) need to set guidelines out for developers that all new icons should adhere to this look or the system will look messy and fragmented (a'la Android) with a mixture of 3D, glossy and flat icons.

The only bug I've found that I haven't seen mentioned which is quite major is that deleting photos deletes the one AFTER the one you're looking at. Lost me a couple of nice family snaps before I realised so be aware. I'll submit a bug report on this though I expect it will have been picked up by now.

One last point - my iPhone 5, like many others, suffers from the yellow/green tinted screen making whites and skin tones look sickly, but since putting iOS 7 on this doesn't seem to be the case and it looks near neutral. I haven't remeasured yet as my lightmeter is at work but I'll see if it has improved from the 81% Red / 106% Green / 92% Blue that it originally had (which is pretty poor from Apple). I wonder if they've altered the colour profile? Many people on Apple support forums have noticed the shop display models look great while nearly all new stock seems to have this tint (many have tried multiple phones to get a "good one" with no success), interesting that that would be the case.

The design of folders needs to go darker or more transparent. The transparent option would look great with a thin white border.

iOS 7 has multi tasking, as for finder, isn't that not the same as spotlight search? Also iTunes has changed too. Have you actually used iOS 7?

Mulltitasking is when you work in 2apps simultaneously. Its not a huge issue on the phone but is on the ipad. Having a finder means being able to vew and organize file tree--just like in---ummm--finder. Apple should provide true file tree finder in itunes at a minimum--but one natively in ios would be helpful as well.

Ios 7 has turned out not very pleasing on the eyes, I don't know what happened to Jonathan Ive. Functionality AND design has been taken from other phones too. Seriously look at the side by side comparisons!

I really dislike the design, but functionality given was a huge improvement from iOS 7, but considering I'll have to wait for an ios 7 jailbreak to get another theme, when most functionality is available on the cydia store.

I am well aware that some things in mobile UI you can't redesign or rework, but in Apple's case they made no effort to differentiate themselves from their competitors like they normally do. I'm not one of those people who are desperate for change then are angry when it happens, I was looking for things that no competition has done, so its worth spending so much money on an iphone when I could spend less on an android powered one.

What were Apple thinking??? Granted a minimalistic design can be nice, but it needs to be consistent. And considering its not consistent in the stock icons how can it be consistent with app store applications. They shouldn't of tried to make a windows phone or web OS clone and just given ios 7 a small, simple (irony) refresh.

The new ios, has proven Apple to be no better than Samsung, clearly copying Android as well as windows phone in both apparence and functionality. Look here if you don't believe me. ioS 7 is no doubt a step backwards for Apple. I really hope they change it soon or at least alter the icons so they don't hurt their image.

Totally agree! The functionality added by ios 7 is great, but I find the design that they chose for the OS mimicked windows phone too much (Look at the side by side comparisons) and the icons, well some of them look like they were created by someone who had just discovered photoshop. Didn't Apple say the icons were going to be fixed?

Is the site in those links your site or something? All six of your posts on this site have said pretty much the same thing and linked to that site.

, as for finder, isn't that not the same as spotlight search?

No. To be the same as Finder, Spotlight will have to find files within an app. That is, if I have a document inside Pages called "tennis," typing "tennis" in iOS Spotlight doesn't bring it up.

I don't want to change it. I don't want a theme. I don't want a jailbreak. I don't want a widget. I don't want a swippy keyboard. I don't want to scuba dive with it. I don't want to bump phones. I don't want to hold a tablet to my head and talk. I want to send messages. Check the news. Make a couple of calls and I want to do it on a phone that just works.:)

The Finder, and traditional hierarchical file systems, are relics from the PC era. These things are not needed on modern, cloud-aware mobile devices.

That isn't to say iOS couldn't use better document management capabilities, which works across apps, in the future. But it shouldn't be anything like the Finder.

I don't think iOS 7 is a disaster. I think it is a very good improvement over iOS 6.

I think too many people were expecting something that they shouldn't have.

If Apple had completely redesigned the OS, many people would be complaining that they did that, instead of slowing easing people into it.

Nobody is being forced to upgrade to iOS7. If people don't like the beta, there are plenty of other options.

And many of those complaining on the forum about iOS 7, will upgrade and keep complaining. Some things never change.

iOS 7 has multi tasking

At least Apple wants you to believe this. The truth is something else: it's still a far cry away from other, alternative OS'es (Android, WP8 / WinRT). You CAN NOT run arbitrary code in background - basically, what you can now do (in addition to the old multitasking features) is downloading / refreshing. No goodies like multimedia playback or video recording.

Agreed, but at the moment we have neither Finder-like nor an alternative document management system, and that is a bad situation imo.

Apple thought we woudn't need one at first. I guess that they'll come up with something based on tags transitioning from Sea Lion in combination with this horizontal scolling view they have purchased last year. The only thing I wish for is that it "just works". :D

No, I wish. Its just I really dislike Apple for copying all these companies, after they sued everyone. Sorry I went overboard, I wasn't spamming. Sorry. :(

Well I downgraded back to ios 6. While I am very impressed with ios 7 look and features it's just very unstable right now. I mean it was stuck at the lock screen and wouldn't turn off just froze. I don't even see how this would even benefit developers between the disappearing keyboard frozen screens I would say this is closer to alpha and that was a fresh install. Ill try again when beta 2 is released.

I expect iOS 8 wishlists faster than usual.

================

Oh, and yes, iOS 7 is horrible, I can't believe it's the finished product. Apple was lying about a fall release! It's completely obvious that this isn't the first beta install.

I really hope there is a black UI since I'm getting a black iPhone 5s/6 not white.

Have it on black iPhone, don't think it's a problem. Or rather, the things I find problematic about iOS 7 would be a problem on white iPhones, too.

It be sweet if they give you the option to switch between their new look or back to classic.

Why? Just stick to iOS 6 if you don't want the new UI. IMO, iOS 6 now looks dated and inconsistant. I can't go back and it makes me shudder when i see iOS 6 on my friends phones. That awful glossy effect and the lockscreen looks terrible when compared to the new one.

Definitely. Now that WinRT has had the absolutely excellent "snap" multitasking mode for a year, I secretly hoped Apple, finally, would give us something similar. Or even a complete windowing experience like that of Quasar (an absolutely excellent JB tool).

Nope. Only some new API's and a redesign. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't seem to innovate much and alternatives (Android and WP/WinRT) are now, in 2013, offer a much more productive way of using tablets. And this will stay the same at least until iOS8 (one and a half year).

Assuming the forthcoming Key Lime Pie (Android 5.0, to be released soon) will indeed support native windowed multitasking as rumored, of course. (Currently, only Samsung's proprietary extensions support windowing on Android 4.x)
