My thoughts exactly. I even downloaded the most popular iOS7 theme from cydia and the look (which matched all the screen shots I've been seeing) was so gawd-awful, that I deleted the theme and welcomed back my stock icons.

I highly doubt some cydia theme is going to replicate iOS 7 exactly, so using that knockoff will not be a good representation. I didn't like iOS 7 from the pics, but after using it for a week, i like it a lot more than iOS 6

I'm assuming this theme merely replicates the look of iOS 7 but retains the performance of iOS 6? If so, I'm not surprised you deleted it. Essentially, you took the worst of iOS 7 (the gawd-awful icons and wallpapers), but didn't get the best (the new animations, app switcher, control center, multi-page folders, parallax, etc.)

If I were to judge iOS 7 solely by its appearance, I'd hate it. In fact, I did hate it before I installed it on my iPhone. But having used it for about three weeks now, I love it, and I can't imagine going back to iOS 6.

I still hate most of the stock icons, but I don't use most of them anyway, so they're in their own little "folder of shame". And it's amazing how much better iOS 7 looks with a more appealing wallpaper.

Exactly. The majority of people slating it are doing so based on pics, not real world usage.

The only icon i really dislike is safari, the rest are ok. I reckon they'll change by release anyway.

i dont understand how people can make long drawn out complaints like this guy about a BETA release. LMAO!

I mean seriously? My god!

Easy partner, you are throwing in Logic here and there is no place for that.

To many people want the latests iOS now and god forbid there is a little thing in the title that says "BETA"...... Ugh.

Since the focus on iOS 7 has been to let the interface fall back and to bring forth the content, I feel like I'm using content rather than a user interface. It is definitely comparable to Windows phone, but I didn't feel this way about it when I had it. I don't feel like I'm using an OS. I feel like I'm using content. When I'm in Safari, my focus is the website. I forget about everything else and am able to focus on whatever it is that that website provides. When in Calendar, I'm no longer focusing on the pinstripes - I focus on my events. When in Mesages, I don't focus on glass bubbles or bold keyboard keys - I focus on the conversation. When in Notes, I focus on the note instead of the paper tearing off the pad.

This is sort of a sudden realization I've had. I like it because I can focus more on content, but I also miss oogling over realistic and detailed interfaces.

Seems as though the hidden features and improvements might compensate for the flat icon look. Lets see what beta 3 brings us on July 8

Since Apple has started filing trademarks on them I don't think they're changing.

I think we have to remember, Apples Unique Selling Point was not the design of their application icons.

I honestly can't see General Users of smart phones not purchasing an iPhone because of the icon designs.

I also can't see General Users of iDevices changing to other devices just because their icons have changed look!

I'm pretty sure folks on here never bought their iDevice because of the look of the Safari, Mail, Messages etc icons.

For every change made, there will always be complaints! This is reality! There will never be a moment when everyone will be happy.

Christ, Obama could say "For the next 10 years, you will live TAX FREE" - I guarantee there will be someone, somewhere that will complain that it's not 11 years!

I wouldn't read too much into that. Apple files patent and trademark applications all the time as a matter of course. If they decide to change the icons (please, God!) they'll file trademark applications for the new ones, too.

What will happen to your life if they don't change the icons?....oh God its such a tragedy.

I'll probably die. Well, maybe not. Maybe I'll just continue to be deeply disappointed that a company that has always been known for its taste has saddled us with a set of Pretty Princess icons that are so garishly ugly that just about every wannabe designer with access to Photoshop has turned out better ones.

....oh God its such a tragedy.

It's not a tragedy, but it is an annoyance. And an unnecessary one at that. Apple employs some of the most talented designers in the world. They're capable of much better than this. Indeed, from what I've seen around the net, just about everyone is capable of better than this.

And just so you know, I'm not one of those people who is reflexively opposed to change. Icons aside, I love iOS 7. I installed beta 1 (legitimately) on my daily driver, and I wouldn't want to go back to iOS 6. I like the direction Apple is taking the OS, but that just adds to my frustration that they've done such a poor job on some of the visuals.

With a few tweaks, iOS 7 could be so much better.

I dunno, I kinda like the slimmer design. But what's annoying is that shadows got stripped. I wonder whose bright idea was that?

Well, I use my iPhone a lot and every time I look at it I think "wtf how can this be so ugly...". That's the opposite of enhancing my life. Some people don't care about design, some people do.

No a lot of people care about design. Some people want a atrium, zen garden, movie posters, choochoo train, and 100 inch screen tv in their living room. Other people prefer something more simple, like a plant, a painting, and a 42 inch tv. Those are the people that like iOS 7. It more functional yet simple.

Except I don't think flatter = simpler. IMO, icons like calculator and contacts are equally complex in iOS 7 and iOS 6. iOS 7 just made them flat. And picked a color palette that isn't to my taste.

So while I think of myself as tending toward simple in taste, I don't like the new icons in iOS 7.

Just to be clear, I don't mind the simlicity and white space which is elegant when refined a bit. It's the icon design that spoils it all imo.

After spending about a week with iOS 7, I preferred iOS 6's design in almost every way (except the skeumorphism), but iOS 7 does have some much needed features.

I liked the glass and transparency in iOS 6.

Your stuck on a color palate of a icon. What about the OS? That is what we should be talking about. Not the fact that people don't like certain colors.

"Some people don't care about design, some people do."

I see this or variations of it through out this thread. It seems to me to be a bit arrogant to assume that because someone has different taste than you that they "don't care about design".

Before IOS7 there were hundreds if not thousands of threads and posts vilifying the skeumorphic designs that Apple was using. Apple heard the complaints and did something about it. Now the lovers of those old icons come out and complain that their gone.

I happen to mostly like what I see, although there a couple that I don't understand, but I had the same thoughts about the old icons too.

To me icons are nothing more than buttons that get me to where I want to go. As long as they can do that they don't bother me much.

Some people have complained about the shadows being gone. Those where so tired anyway, and I like the Parallel idea much better.

Didn't say anything about the OS, just said I don't like the ICONS.

As it happens, I also have problems with the font and the UI, but in that post, I only said I don't like the icons. The fact is, if it were just the color of the icons I didn't like, I'd be perfectly willing to live with that -- I still won't like them, but it wouldn't be a deal-breaker.

I know thats what you said but who really cares about the icons. I have never heard anyone say anything about any icon. Thats until iOS 7.

Hmmm, good point. I don't think icons are that important, either, but maybe it's that they reflect the overall design philosophy of iOS 7, which is to make everything flat. Hence maybe people who don't like the flat look tend to focus on the icons instead of enumerating all the instances where the UI have gone flat.

Anyway, I've tended to stay away from commenting on the icons, but I just wanted to get in the point that flat and simple aren't necessarily the same thing, that's all.
