Anyone have any opinions on this? I played WOW for a long time and loved it but have heard decent things aout EQ2. I think I just got sick of WOW and the fact that I had played all the races and classes...What do you think?

Also, I like to solo a lot...:apple:

Well, if you're tired of WoW then I guess you've got nothing to lose by trying EQ2. I've never played it myself... I can't imagine myself playing anything other than WoW - but then I hardly get any time to play, so every time I do get around to it I really enjoy it.

WoW is certainly more enjoyable when played with friends. I didn't like solo at all.

Now that game update 5 has been released you may want to try Vanguard. It really is a great game, even though it has received a lot of bad press in the past they have fixed pretty all of the problems it had now.

EQ2 is pretty good. I played it for awhile and liked it a lot. Nothing ever hooked me though like Ashron's Call did though...

EQ2 is a pretty good game. EQ1 for the PC is also a great game also (and is not dead like most people think just because #2 is out), you might want to check that out.

Or... you could try EverQuest: Macintosh Edition, it doesn't get updated anymore, but there are still a lot of people playing the game, you can get all the software and 15 days of subscription for free at the Sony Website.

WoW is more fast-paced as far as MMOs go, and has a huge community. The main trade-off with having such a large community is that it becomes harder to find players to group with that are friendly and reliable.

EQ2 is paced a little slower than WoW, and the community is smaller and more intimate and helpful. It is a good game, and the lore ties into EQ1 nicely.

EQ1 on the Windows side is still actively being developed and quite possibly has a larger user-base than EQ2. Many "improvements" have been implemented to make it more WoW-like, but it is still more complicated being an updated first-gen MMO. The game world is incredibly rich with lore if you're into that over power-leveling your way to raid level. The sections that are now mid-game in EQ were previously the end-game content, so if you can find players to group with in those levels the story-line is simply amazing.

FFXI is still a very enjoyable game, if you're really into Final Fantasy. It is extremely slow paced, but has a solid community of veteran players. The ability to change your job at any time so as to play as every class in the game is a big plus. The FF universe is fully alive in this game, with chocobos and moogles and cactaurs and wonderful cut-scene story elements. It can seem a bit linear, as there is an over-arching story, but whereas single player FF games have a story that plays out in about 80 hours, FFXI's story can take 8000 hours, mainly because things move along at a snail's pace.

I enjoy all four games, but none of them enough to keep paying for a subscription. I can only devote about five or six hours a week to gaming, so I've fallen away from MMOs. I wish I had more time to play, but it's just not possible currently.

EQ2 is a pretty good alternative to WoW. Some aspects are better, such as the crafting system and community. The problem I had, being in the UK, was that the two UK servers were hardly supported. They were often down when there was no problem with them because of the log-in server. Then they were down because there was a problem and no information was forthcoming as to why. You can hardly find a copy in the UK too, so I assume they don't want us to play. As you're in the US though, you should be okay.

I'd say if you're bored with WoW and have an Intel machine, you could always check out Age of Conan. So far the feedback sounds great. I'll be playing as soon as I have a machine to play it on :D

Or you could always wait for Warhammer.......

EQ2 is nice but it seems like you are playing alone for a LONG time. In WoW, you enter the world with other players right away. AoC is really a lot of fun. Still somewhat buggy though.

AC was my 1st real mmorpg and probably remains my favorite ever. My 1st drudge skulker kill will always hold a special place in my heart. :)

Oddly enough, since posting my reply I've found that Sony have given previous players 60 days free. It's on my SoE account! They haven't bothered to tell anyone though. Another example of SoE's appalling marketing. Anyway, I think I'll install it on my mac once I get Windows. I hope my characters are still there!

It might be a good time for you to start if there's in influx of returning players.

In my opinion, World of Warcraft is the best MMORPG.

I agree, but as the author has all ready played WoW, I'm wondering why he's asking WoW or EQ? :) I played the Everquest Trial of the Isle and was not impressed.

Does anyone believe that MMOs should grab you in first couple of hours of game play, or do you need to give them more time? WoW was my first fantasy RPG MMO and I was hooked in about 20 min, although I no longer play it.

Haven't told anyone? Haven't you noticed the ads and articles about the Living Legends program on gaming sites? ;)

Wow lost some of its luster, Blizz has made the game to easy. I am about to pick up Age of Conan, it looks pretty legit. Also Hellgate: London is a ballin game. I never played EQ2 so i wouldn't know about that.

It's a "ballin" game? I bet you don't know about many things, buddy.

World of Warcraft has set the standard high for MMORPGs. My first experience in MMOs was FFXI Online. It had no mounts to speak of and the only way you could get around was by going into a city and renting a chocobo, which costed thousands of gil to do. It had no quest system either. It may have had a story, but that's it. Nothing compared to the quests that WoW has. And did I mention it takes you at least 6 months to get to Lvl. 75 in FFXI Online? Yeah, anyways, WoW is doing great still. It will be going strong for many more years.

As for Age of Conan, many people seem to like it. May be hype or not, give it a try.

As for Warhammer Online. I dunno. It seems very Player versus Player orientated, so give it a try if you're into it.

But for the most part, stick with WoW, but if you're intent on trying Everquest II, do so! It's a fun game! I got to like Lvl. 40 in it and I stopped playing due to the fact that I was addicted to FFXI because I am a masochist. But it's fun! Graphics are nice and the community is fun to be apart of.

EQ2 appears to be a PC Only game. So will stick with WOW which has versions for the PC and Mac.......

Bill.....:apple:

Boot Camp is your friend! You are limiting yourself! Apple has set us free from the confines of just their OS, so why not make use of it! The EQ2 community would love to have another member.

As a long time gamer who's played EQ1, EQ2, WoW, (along with DAoC, SWG, AO, VG and it all began with UO) I'd have to say EQ2 is superior to WoW. I'm playing AoC currently and enjoying it, with these two major caveats a) you need a mean rig to play it (I'm on a MacPro w/8800GT in BC) b) it's pretty lean in terms of features aside from combat. I'm on a PvP server and loving that aspect. The PvP is utterly pointless at this time, and there are no restrictions, i.e. level 80 can gank a level 12 in a lowbie zone, but it's fun.

My all time favorite is EQ1. Outstanding game. This is the game that set the bar as far as I'm concerned. Content rich beyond any other by 10 fold, complex and intricate spells, good degree of risk vs reward especially in the past, but that's just inevitable mudflation. Super outdated graphics engine of course, but unmatched lore and content.

WoW is a fantastic game. Everyone bags on it, but it's a total blast for a long long long time before it gets old. It does get old though. WoW is stereotyped for being an MMO "lite" and rightly so in many ways. Any moron can solo to max level with absolutely no problem... and so what. It has raid content too. Great game overall and can be extremely immersive if one takes the approach of losing themselves in the content, which I love to do.

EQ2 is a mixed bag, but overall I enjoyed it slightly more than WoW, albeit differently. EQ2 is darker, for one. In WoW I never could shake the "kiddie" feeling of the content even with the liberal amount of TnA in some of the models. Heck all MMO's have that going on. EQ2 just seems more adult oriented in both the quest goals and the overall intricacy. In other words it doesn't feel "as" designed for kids with small attention spans. EQ2 also has it's lore seeped in EQ1 lore since it's set in the same world in the future, so there's a lot of nostalgia pre-canned.

Hard choice, friend. Good luck whatever you do and don't forget to get some sun.
