My MacBook Pro was idle, I got back from lunch . Safari had 5 tabs open, DuckDuckGo, Gmail, 3 sports articles and 9to5Mac article. I awake it with the fingerprint, and I get this box up along with a "force quit" box:

What???? So I bring up the Activity Monitor/memory tab to see what's up, and who is #1 on the list:

154GB of memory used!!!! Naturally I force quit it as directed.

I am on MacOS Sonoma/17.0. Not sur e what to say or do other than see if it happens again to me or someone else...must have been one nice memory leak in it...
