Okay, so I've got six Starter accounts (Wow1, Wow2 , etc).
I bought the full game (all the way to Cata) and I'd like to install it.
What's the best way ?
Using the DVD's ? Download the full game client ? Can I keep using all my six accounts (and the characters that go with them) ?

I tried entering the serial on the battle.net site but it asked me to choose an account to apply it to. Does this mean I can only upgrade one trial/starter account ?

You can only apply a purchased copy to one starter account only.

I would suggest downloading the game client as presumably it has all the latest patches applied (not sure about this though) if you install from the dvd you will need to spend some time downloading content patches. Cata is 4.2 at the moment meaning that two big content patches have been issued since the game was released.

IIRC, downloading the client doesn't give you the latest patch, just Cata 4.0, so even with that you'd have to download 4.1 and 4.2 separately anyway. Might as well just install from the DVDs tbh.

And yeah, as James said, you can only upgrade 1 account per box (or digital) purchase. So you might want to think carefully about which one you want to upgrade.

The best way I think to install the client is to download it. After about 300mb of downloading the game is ready to go.. Sure it'll be an unpleasant experience because it will be streaming content but if you want to leave it for the first few gig of the download you should be fine in the early game content for the streaming technologies to suffice.

Absolutely install with the DVDs. The game is nearly 20 GB now, so it'll be one hell of a wait if decide to download the whole thing. you only need to use the Cataclysm discs - they contain the whole game up to 4.0.

Other posters are correct - you'll have to download the last few patches either way.

You'll only get to attach one starter account but you MAY be able to do a paid transfer of some of your other characters to the account you do attach (I know you can transfer characters between accounts but I just haven't seen someone do it with starter accounts yet - it is just too new).

I need to amend - if you have been playing starter edition, you may have the whole client already and just need an account and maybe download a quick patch. If you're doing a fresh install, use the discs.

I recently installed WoW, with all the expansions, on my iMac and it took a good couple of hours to install from the discs. Then there was a 10GB d/l to do as well!

Worth it though, looks fantastic at max settings and full resolution! :D

As someone has already said - you have the full client already. Just need to download a patch.

Also, you'd be much better off using the digital download.

There's a bug with the digital download whereby you disconnect and can't log in when you go to Stormwind or Orgrimmar (doesn't happen in Undercity, Thunder Bluff, Silvermoon City, The Exodar, Ironforge or Darnassus), but just open a ticket, and a GM can move your character to fix it.
