Wow the iPad is annoying as ***** sometimes! *Ver. Syncing*

Seriously why can't it just work as you expect sometimes?

I spent a crapload of time putting a photo album together in iPhoto and left it to sync while I showered and expected it to be done when I returned.

Was it? Of course not. Why? Because it was busy syncing my Apps! Now I did have the tab to sync Apps selected...but if I deselect it it wants to remove all the Apps from the iPad? WTF? I just want to add the photos....nothing else, is that too much to ask for?
 
I guess you must not sync yours very frequently if the syncing apps part took longer than you taking a shower! :eek:
 
Looks like I already have an update...

I ended up having to leave the Apps selected and unclicked all the crap I didn't want on there (iPhone only apps) and thought all was good. It said sync was done and NO PICTURES! Sweet!

Now it's trying again..optomizing the photos for the iPad...how long can it freaking take to get some pictures on there? Im supposed to be at my parents house for lunch, actually was supposed to be 45 minutes ago but Im fighting with this crap. ***** you Apple.

Well it's actually your fault they're not synced.

Strange. I went for lunch to my parents today too and had no such issue with my iPad. :rolleyes:
 
You won’t have a problem if you check all your settings first, IE: uncheck apps you don’t want /duh. You should also sync more than once per year to avoid an hour of apps updating.
 
The thing is, I also sync my iPhone to the same computer...does iTunes keep the checked apps separate for each device or do I need to check/uncheck the apps for each device manually each time?

It maintains your preferences for each device separately. However, in iTunes there is a checkbox which says "Automatically sync new apps" (or similar) and you might want to uncheck this to prevent newly downloaded apps from either device or from iTunes itself from being sync'd. Note you need to uncheck this on both devices.

The other thing you could do is buy a camera connection kit and then you can transfer photos to the iPad directly.

Thanks for the advice.

I have a camera connection kit but in this situation, I had photos on my iPhone in addition to photos on a camera so I wanted to get them all on the computer and then sort thru them and make an album.
 
I have a serious love/hate relationship with iTunes in general.

On the one hand, its absolutely great that I get a full backup of my device each time I plug it in and have a central spot for loading and managing all my data/apps/books/music/videos. Really, can it get any simpler?

On the other hand, this "can it get any simpler?" mentality of iTunes gives the end user almost ZERO control over the synchronization options. And the filer app....give me a freaking break. I totally understand that version one of almost all Apple apps = "Fast and Crappy" but they dumb this stuff down so far that you lose all semblance of control over things.

Its maddening sometimes.
 
I share some of the OP's frustration with the iPad/iPhone/iTunes syncing. It's particularly annoying trying to use 2 different computers. Apple really needs a simple way to allow fine controls for each device connected and the ability to keep mobile & desktop Macs in sync. (If it's on the iPad move it to the computer and visa versa)

I'm sure there are third party and scripting tools but I'd really prefer Apple give us a few more options for proper syncing.

#1 would be a simple sync photos only tick box which would solve all the delays in syncing photos.

Duh. Don't take in the shower with you and it will work fine.:cool:

You have no many times I wanted to rip my mac apart and chuck my iphone at a wall when that stuff would happen. And it happened nearly every time. Syncing apps takes forever and it always wants to do that.
 
Sync your iPad more often, and also uncheck the "Automatically Add New Apps" From the Apps tab.
 
I only ever sync with iTunes to backup or update the firmware. I would've just thrown the photos in my Dropbox/iDisk/Flickr.
