I've had my MBA for a week now, and have started taking it with me. I've taken it to business meetings, as well as social gatherings, and the response is unbelievable! Everyone flocks to it. I make no introductions. They just see it, and from across the room... they come running.

I've had a lotta toys over the years, including the original iPod, and the iPhone, and never experienced such a reaction from others. OK. Yes, it DOES feel good, to show it off a bit. The only problem so far, is that we got so carried away with it in a meeting this morning, that we didnt have time for the actual meeting. It's been rescheduled. I will leave the MBA home... LOL

I would imagine over there in "Eastern NC", people would be impressed by pretty much anything. (I keed, I keed. My mom's family hails from Eastern NC and I love it over there.)

But I agree: I took my MBA down to my local fave restaurant/bar this past weekend, and people were oohing and aahing over it. It's the same reaction I've had to my iPhone when I first got it, and a couple of different iPods (especially the first nano). Good design is something that people just instinctively "get"... if I had to pick one person at Apple who is indispensible, it would not be Steve Jobs; it would be Jonathan Ive, the head designer. Dude knows what he's doing.

People are liking it in mid-NC, too! And I agree, the design is fantastic. When first announced impression was meh - too little parts, too big machine, batery, etc.. After really analyzing what I do with a laptop and how much I travel, I've come to realize Apple knew more about what I needed than I did.

Traveling with it is a dream. Do you have the reaction that a lot of people when they see it have this desire to touch & hold it?

Hmmm, this is an interesting idea....

I haven't taken mine out at all yet. I had it sent to my office because no one would be available at home to sign for it and that was the only time some of the guys at work were able to see it. I'm thinking about bringing it in tomorrow because we just had our cafe open and they have open wireless for us to use in there. I wonder what kind of reaction I'll get.

yeah. That's the downside to having anything new, cool and unusual on display. I loved my previous car but I had strangers coming up to me all the time to look at it, ask about it and tell me how beautiful it was. People would signal me to roll down my window at stop lights, they'd walk up to me in grocery store parking lots at midnight. I had a guy run up from a car 3 cars back at a stop light and tap on my window and I'm thinking dang did I do something wrong and he just wanted to ask what year mine was. I'm kind of dreading the day I get wireless sorted out at work because I plan to carry my MBA around everywhere. It's fun at first, but the time it takes to answer questions and show stuff gets old.

My first ipod was a mini which ppl loved mainly because of its bold colour. Everone, was like how much is it for then i got the same remarks for the ipod touch which replaced my mini.

But MBA is a special treat rather than any ipod, its a full computer so so thin and lovely... allready i have inspired a no. of ppl to buy one as a gift for them selfs (To justify the price)!!!

The sad part is that Iphone has not launched in India which is kinda sad really!

This is exactly what I experienced today. I had my MBA shipped to my office (actually it's a high school since I'm a teacher) and it arrived today. I opened the box in the afternoon after class and half of the teachers in the staff room were gone but the moment I opened it, all teachers came and drooled over it. In about 5 minutes the VPs heard of it and came over too. Everyone was talking about how thin it is, how light and sexy it is. When I said that the battery life is about 4-5 hrs with normal usage so teachers actually thought that is a pretty amazing battery life for how thin it is. I have an iPhone too but not many of them were interested in it when I first brought it to work. But at the same time 80% of them think the Air is too expensive

What a coincidence. I moved down east FROM Charlotte! I still love it back there in the big city. And I visit my old friends whenever I can. But, I love it down here too. I live in New Bern.

Not to sound like an jerk, but why would you bring a $2000 computer to a social gathering?

I think the Air is an incredible looking little machine...I have just had two defective ones that keep my rating a bit lower than most.

social gatherings redefined

Let me restate the part about social gatherings...
In addition to the usual meetings of the work day, I took the MBA to an after-hours gathering of my geek friends. Maybe the term "social gathering" was misleading. It was more like a "non" business meeting... but now really. Aren't we getting a little off subject?

I was sitting in a coffee shop the other day and a group of people (not gadget herds and both men and women) came up and wanted to check it out, lift it and touch it. I'm not that excited about being the focus of attention, but I suppose it will stop once people see more of them. Still, it shows what an impressive marketing machine Apple has - as well as what a great looking computer they've produced.

There are more important topics than the MBA

I took my MBA to a restaurant with my wife to meet a friend of mine and his wife. My friend is a gadget guy like me and he only reason I would take the MBA to a restaurant. Anyway I took it out of the inter-office envelop I brought -- for dramatic effect -- and of course he was impressed. The wives were to some extent as well.

After a few minutes a woman and her group (two couples) come over and said "Excuse me but can I ask a question?" So here I am ready to say yes it is the new MBA, and yes it is thin, and yes it is lightweight, etc. Then to all our astonishment the lady asked about geese she saw off the interstate (she happened to be from Toronto) that looked like Canada geese but weren't. Luckily my friend knew his geese and went on for 10 minutes about the Snow geese and all the trouble they cause because of their large flocks.

We all laughed the rest of the night about how geese up-staged my shining new MBA.
