ok so I just got back from picking up some takeout and I decided to try out youtube on the edge connection for the first time.

And holy crap it actually works and works well. The buffer times were way faster than I expected and the entire experience is great.

This thing really is great.

Amazing, eh? Some people gripe that it's a lower quality version but we're talking youtube here... not exactly a source for HD content.

My only gripe with youtube is that it's only the most popular videos of all time. I visit youtube to see fresh content... I have no interest in watching the OK GO video another hundred times no matter how awesome it was the first one thousand.

yeah whats up with youtube - the stuff i want to watch isnt availible to see on iphone......

any news on if when or ever it will be?

Yep. 100% of YouTube content should be available by the fall.

They have to reencode everything into H.264. They've said that it will all be done by Fall.

EDIT: arn beat me to it.

Yeah its just a matter of time. They are reencoding it for the iPhone and :apple:TV. My question is after they get caught up with all the old stuff are they going to encode the new stuff on the fly? Meaning if I upload a vid to youtube and will almost immediately be about to view it on iphone?

An interesting counter-point in a Cnet iPhone review - they said they put up a video an it appeared on the iPhone within hours. (They actually mentioned it as a negative it was immediate, but I thought it was more amazing it appeared at all!)

you tube works on edge but watch the same video on wifi and you will see a big difference in quality. In fact, wifi youtube videos look better on my iphone than on my desktop b/c the lower res iPhone screen better matches the res the youtube videos are recorded in. Also use the search option in youtube to find more videos, there are thousands more out there
