Yeah that's true of most of big companies, as they grow and get more systematic in their dealings, they have more to risk and more reason to be risk averse. Big companies tend to fall in group think easily or lack of need/want to rock the boat with something new. If the departments get siloed, they fall into the "not my job" loop as well...

I saw that yesterday, and the title of the article was a tad click baity. He didn't come right out and say it, but there is certainly an inference and given Apple's behavior the past few years, I'd say his assessment may be on target.

Apple is playing from a position of power and not wishing to lose its position, but other companies are more willing to risk it all.
