I have both "Double Tap" and "Wrist Flick" gestures turned on, on my Watch 11. If I get a notification for, say, a new message or that I've closed my rings, and use double tap to select "Dismiss", or physically click "Dismiss", the notification is gone - no red dot displayed at the top of the watch screen. If I use the wrist flick gesture, the notification closes, but the red dot is still displayed, and I can still view the notification by swiping down from the top of the screen. Wrist flick is behaving like I ignored the notification, not that I dismissed it. Is anyone else seeing this behavior? I've tried turning wrist flick off and back on, and restarting my watch (and phone), no change.

That’s how it’s designed to work it would seem. Same on my Ultra 2.

Personally I’d prefer it deletes the notification.
I agree. This doesn't feel like "dismissing" a notification. I thought it was supposed to have the same result as actually clicking on "Dismiss". Kind of disappointing, but definitely a first-world problem.

I actually like the distinction - quite often you could flick and lose the notification for ever. This way, you dismiss it off the screen or use double tap if you want it to go.

I feel indifferent on deleting or dismissing the notification, but I feel that I have to "flick" quite "hard", fast, abrupt for this function. Quite "unnatural"

I like the way they implemented it to begin with. Many times some type of notification will come up at the most inconvenient time, especially at work, and I don't want to delete it right away. Being able to go back when I have time to view the notification on the watch or on my phone keeps me from getting distracted right at that moment. I have used the wrist flick more times in the past two months than I have ever used double-tap in the past two years.

Good points about situations where you *don't* want to completely delete the notification. I'm glad to have options - double-tap when I won't want to see the notification again, and wrist flick when I do.
