macOS Writing a photo booth plugin

I can't remember where I read it, but I thought Leopard allowed developers to write Photo Booth filters/plugins.

Does anyone know how to do this?
Or has anyone heard anything about this?

People have been writing them ever since Leopard came out, look around for the thread where people were replicating the hologram filter... I think there was some instruction there.

They use Quartz Composer to do the work.

I don't think there's an open API for it. I only know of one plugin that exists, but I don't think it's open source.
