Writing a will...

There was once a commercial on tv about buying stocks and how it paid to know who recommended a stock because it could be a totally bad move. That is similar to this. If you want to ensure that your will is properly done the only true way to do that is to get a lawyer who deals with this type of matter.
 
This doesn't have anything to do with your post in the Angry thread, does it?

Basically, you can write your own will with guidance from web sources you can Google as easily as I can, or you can buy a Will form in places that sell those written-by-lawyers forms for various things, but you're probably best off to pay a real lawyer to do it for you (just have all the info ahead of time), and make sure a few relatives know of the location and existence of your will.

Assuming you're not going to leave behind a billion-dollar estate, it should all go pretty smoothly.

My post in the angry thread? Well, I wouldn't say I'm suicidal, or homicidal (well, maybe just a little). But the fact is I'm not the healthiest person on the planet. I'm a realist and I knwo someday I will die, whether it's today or 60 years from now, I want to make sure that everything goes smoothly and my property goes to the right people.

I only have three real friends outside of the internet (mostly cos the rest are worthless, irresponsible, uncaring people). And then my family. There are a few people from the net who Iw ant to see get some of my stuff, and then the rest among my friends and family.

Thanks for the input.

And btw, an HD camera would cost as much as a lawyer, maybe more, so until HD comes down in price i'm afraid it will have to do in the old-school format.

If you want to avoid messy disputes over what the will means, then you should absolutely hire a lawyer. I'm in law school right now, and almost all of the hardest cases involving disputes over how to interpret the language of a will come from wills written by non-lawyers. There are so many times when a non-lawyer will accidentally use words with double meanings or improperly use terms of art in ways that end up seriously screwing things up down the road. And because the testator is dead by the time everyone gets around to interpreting the will, nobody really knows what the testator intended when they wrote those words.
 
While you're at it you may want to consider doing a living will, too, just to help cover all the bases.

Interesting. I use a lot of legal jargon and what not with my job every day. But I was thinking if I spelled it out in plain old english:

So and so shall receive: Powermac G4 Quicksilver 2002, love swing, and feces catapult.
Yadda yadda shall receive: my communist pet monkey "Frank," my Fight Club Book, and my katana and samurai sword collection.
Whoever Whoever shall receive: All of my pornography, and Japanese Anime collection both on VHS, and DVD.

Kinda like that.

I guess you're probably right. A lawyer's the best way to go.

No - in case you end up like that brain dead lady. A DNR is a subset of the living will. It passes the power of attorney and other decision making powers to a designee in the event that you are incapable of making those decisions for yourself - be it a mental disease, physical incapacitation, etc.
