Writing tools - not showing changes in 3rd party apps?

I've been trying to use writing tools, primarily proofread on third party apps like Microsoft office, etc. Unlike in Apple apps like mail, proofread doesn't seem to show you changes made, which makes it pretty useless IMO. I can't find any settings to show changes, does anyone know if this can be done?
