well first problem with my imac came at the release of 10.6.2. computer died after the update. went to the apple store to speak to a genius and he plugged in a external hard drive and update a file that got corrupted. fast forward three months. computer is up and running. going strong. go to sleep. i wake up to find a spinning circle ((not the beach ball)) on the desktop. i restarted it and it wouldnt boot. i bring it back to apple and the genius said my ram was bad. so i went to best buy and bought ram. i know i know i should have bought crucial but i just wanted to get my computer up and running. install the new ram, and boom. NOTHING!!!

symptoms of the computer is that when i press the power button, i hear the fans go on real quick then down to a barely audible hum. like you have to really listen for it because its so faint.

i have tried installing the OS again by following apples steps. ((disk in>hold c>disk utility>repair disk/erase disk. i erased the disk. restarted and it lets me choose the language. then it asks me to reinstall from backup. i just want to install the OS.

any help?

So you're able to boot from the DVD? Just pop in the disk and install and see if it helps. You probably have corrupted system files which are blocking the boot up. If that doesn't help, the issue is hardware related

not capable of booting off the disc at all. it allows me to select the language. then it asks me to restore from back up on time machine. then it doesnt go past that. very annoying.

Weird because the TM restore should come at the end of the installation, not before it. Visit the genius again and get it fixed
