I seem to remember Steve Jobs saying during the iMac G4 intro that turing the optical drive on it's side makes it slower... yet that's how the drives are now...

The sunflower iMac was the best design ever made bar none. Nothing in it's successors have even come close although looking back and seeing what the iMac is today Apple has achieved to bring the whole base of electronics behind the LCD screen and it's almost as thin as the monitor is on the sunflower. What's next? I predict the aluminum is the last iMac design as Apple has not even included the "iMac" name on the new iMacs.

I completely agree with you.
