I need to buy a second computer as one of my ibook died. I have a Unibody 2ghz and I'm considering getting a base mini with the 2.26 cpu. Do you think there is any point in waiting until the WWDC? I already have a Mac 24" LCD so I'm not interested in an imac.

Thanks

i realllllllllllllllllly doubt that there will be an update ANYtime soon =)

Not unless you want to wait to find out when Snow Leopard will be officially released so that you can make your purchase in time to qualify for the drop in copy of it.

We had to wait nearly two years to get a real upgrade. The only point in waiting, as someone else has already mentioned, would be to get Snow Leopard with the Mac mini.

I should add I'm also in education and I understand their might be a back to school deal. is this the case for the mini? Thanks for all the feedback.

Since you have another mac that will have to upgrade to SL anyway, I say go ahead and get it.

I think that once it got the same GPU parts as the new Macbook, that is all that it needed to stay current. If they update, it will likely only be a negligible processor upgrade.

Any upgrade to HDD or RAM can now easily be done by the user, at better specs and cheaper prices.

I recently grabbed the current-gen mini from the refurb store to pair with my TV and I could not be happier. I am already going to have to grad the SL family pack anyway, so it was a easy choice for me.

The last Mac mini revision took 19 months before a refresh. It's been under 3 months since the last refresh. WWDC sounds about right...If you mean WWDC 2010.

There's also no point in waiting for the summer, as the education promo isn't applicable on the Mac mini.

The only hardware I think has the potential of being updated at WWDC are apples notebooks. Desktops are unlikely to be updated before the end of the year in my opinion.

i think the iMac could see an update before year end for the holiday season given how incremental the last update was.

The last update was hardly incremental. The whole thing's been redesigned. Completely different logic board with a completely different chipset. Different generation of Core 2 processors. Faster front side bus with DDR3 memory instead of DDR2 memory. Reworking of the rear ports, significantly different and upgraded graphics, dual monitor support. Its probably the biggest change in the history of the Mini apart from the switch from G4 to Core Duo. Definitely not incremental. I'd expect the earliest the mini will be upgraded will be early next year and it'll likely only be a modest processor speed boost.

No point in waiting. The most we'll likely see is Snow Leopard details and the iPhone 2 announcement.

Ive ordered a Mini that should be delivered within 2-3 days. I just realized that maybe i shouldve waited so i might have gotten snow leopard with it, so i called apple and they told me that since the snow leopard release will be within my 14 days remorse period i will most likely recieve a free upgrade should SL be released june8. We both agreed it makes more sense than me sending the whole thing back and ordering a new one, but since the release date of snow leopard isnt official yet he couldnt make any promises.

Three, not two.

Snow Leopard will NOT be out at WWDC. The guy blatantly lied.

That's why I said the "iMac" was an incremental update. ;) It was mostly model shuffling with the exact same processors, graphics cards changed, bumps here and there and ever so slightly faster DDR3 RAM.

The mini could still get a little bump anyway, but it's unlikely.

...nothing like trying to give the guy some hope:p

Well the dude dint actually tell me it will be released, he said he has no idea when it will be released. The fault is mine, i thought the rumor is that it might be released on june8, but apperently im mistaken, i havent really looked into this snow leopard business that much. :)

iPhone 2. The iPhone 3G is nothing more than a technology update of the original iPhone. Thats why the 3G is the iPhone 1,2 and the one coming up is the iPhone 2,1

Right, just like the addition of the 8-core option made that the second Mac Pro, even though absolutely none of the hardware changed. Believe what you want.
