Isn't that a tough choice ?

Tax Free (Missouri) Aug 4-6
WWDC Aug 7-11

Luckily I am happy with my iMac G5.
Well, maybe not... ;)

not realli, don't expect any new mac products or revisions from wwdc except the Mac Pro (and that's still very speculative at this point).

I think it depends on what you want. I live in Georgia our tax free is Aug 3-6 but there is a limit on computers: $1500 if it is over that you pay all the tax. Since I want a new MBP, I don't really have an option (no way it will be <$1500).

As I read all the discussions on this website it seems that almost everyone agrees there will be a "Mac Pro" introduced.

MBP: 50/50 on whether there will be an update at WWDC almopst 100% agree there will be by the Paris Expo.

MB: No update (95% agree with this).

iMac and mini: less than 50% think there will be updates

Option: Buy the computer you want, do not open it, and effectively you have a new tax free window Aug 4-20th (this is with the 14 day return). If there is something new introduced, take the computer back and exchnge it, since the box was not opened then you will not be charged the restocking fee.

Good luck.

are you kidding me? everything is due to be brought up to speed. Macbook Pro's wil get merom and possibly a new case design. The Mac Pro will come out. Macbooks will get a speed bump. Possibly even nano's getting their upgrade (due to cheap NAND prices) please i know its your opinion on what is going to happen at WWDC but please dont lead other people the same way as you because 95% you are dead off

NWIH that the macbooks would get a speed bump.

Well things don't necessarily get updated at MW Paris even, the final PBG4 last year came after macworld.

Even though I'm Canadian, that's your best. Since tax adds up quickly, the money saved on tax can score you some good upgrades ;)

I'm buying it and not openig it.

I know by Sunday, the box will have grown eyes and a mouth and it will be staring at me and wispering sweet nothings into my ears......I am already cracking and I don't have it yet.....

I love how everyone thinks they are going to come out with new iPods at WWDC.

World-Wide Developers Conference:rolleyes:

In the end it all comes to 10% restocking fee = (Approx.) Tax Incurred. So go ahead and buy if it's something that's not likely to be updated, e.g. Macbook. Otherwise, I'd say wait.

EDIT: Didn't read all the posts, as always :p, anyways yeah the sealed box idea proposed by chicken seems practical.

Where you find this? Is this an Apple Promotion or your State?

Where can i find out when is NY tax free is?

I looked it up - NY does not have a tax free holiday. link.

i figured that... since i never heard of Tax Free on anything other then clothes. I thought it was an Apple promotion and they are covering the tax.

Well...as I said, my iMac G5 is doing fine. Buying a new
one and having the box closed for some days will be
too much torture.

I am happy to live now in Missouri...not only I am
eligible to use Apple's services (you can not get the same in
Florida) but also they have these tax free days. Not bad at all !!!
And here is the list of tax free limits for Missouri...

* Clothing – any article having a taxable value of $100 or less
* School supplies – not to exceed $50 per purchase
* Computer software – taxable value of $350 or less
* Personal computers – not to exceed $3,500
* Computer peripheral devices – not to exceed $3,500

The MBP may have a bump announced, but it may not even ship until late in august. I'm not sure why you're so convinced MB is getting an update. At this point, only the towers are for sure, and more than two models getting updated is unrealistic. Updates on other models will be soon, but probably not at WWDC. And I doubt we'll see ipods.

Has apple ever updated more than two computers at the same event? Has apple ever made an ipod announcement at WWDC?

Well, yesterday I bought my new iMac !

It was hard to pass the "tax free" chance.

Actually, considering the alternatives, I would need to
wait weeks to get an iMac Merom and I did not find
good reasons to do so (it is not portable).
Also, even if they release Leopard today, I will keep
Tiger around until the first impressions show up.

What is also nice is to find out that the taxes are equivalent
to what Leopard will probably cost.

Anyway, T-1 to open the box !!!
