Looks like anew X-Plane was released, one with helicopters for $5.

Does anyone else remember all those promises of free updates for the first X-Plane? Including an update with helicopters Now, in the end, there might have been 1 or 2 actual updates. And they didn't add that much.

Anyway, I'm pretty disappointed by this release. I guess I shouldn't expect any updates to X-Plane soon.

If anyone is interested, here it is.

I have recently been emailing the developer about when we would see another update, and he said he submitted an update Thursday of last week (or so). If he was right, im guessing he sumbitted this new app at the same time as the x-plane update. So an update should be available soon.

So they are making us buy a completely new app after they promised this update? YES, they promised a helicopter in the original x-plane.

This is BS...IF the helo isn't included in the original.

how do you know it's not going to be in an update. maybe he wanted to create a separate app for people who want helicopters but no planes, and helicopters may be coming in the next x-plane update (i'm being very optimistic here).

EDIT: ok, maybe not

Meh I don't have any desire to have both myself. I would just like to see a commercial jet in the original version myself. Oh and perhaps a city thrown in t here somewhere. Of course I have no idea how feasible they are.

Well considering the intro to the Xplane update mentions to check out xplane airliner and xplane helicopter I say that isn't going to happen...

i have exchanged a lot of emails with Austin (the developer) today, and I can confirm that as of this moment, he doesn't plan much of anything new for the original x-plane for iPhone. He does plan a few more updates though, but they will consist of performance boosts, and other aviation jargon i don't understand. he said he would consider another airport.

he seems verrry annoyed by the people who are complaining about this.

see comments on this toucharcade article:
http://toucharcade.com/2008/12/16/x-plane-helicopter-lands-on-the-iphone/

Austin himself leaves a comment at that article.

Perhaps later I will post some of what he told me in our emails back and forth.

X Plane Heli is cheaper.. So I don't mind the 2 separate versions too much. However, has anyone got X plane heli yet? It says in the load up screen that there is an "X Plane Airliner" on the app store too (although i don't see it yet). So thats 3 versions, which is perhaps too much in my opinion.

Well, obviously he has no plans to add helos to the original game, despite the fact that he said we would originally.

I don't how care how good the rest of his products are, I won't purchase another one based on sheer principle.

He doesn't seem to understand why people are pissed off.

He doesn't have a clue then.

But $10 for Xplane when these other ones are similar in features but half the price? Blah, you'd expect to get something extra from Xplane.

and further evidence original X-Plane purchasers are getting left behind, original had flight region of 60 x 60 miles with 3 airports and 4 NAVAIDS. X-Plane Airliner gives 60x180 miles to fly in, with 42 NAVAIDS and 98 airports!.

Seems developer has realised that to get money for his work he needs to create different apps rather than upgrades, which are free (so no revenue). While you can't fault his logic, it sort of sucks, from an original purchasers perspective.

I think the problem is that the developer implied a lot of things in his earlier comment, in order to drum up sales and attention.

Can anyone explain why the original app still costs $9.99? Does it have twice the features of the new apps?

Yes, I agree.. I think its a bit of a cheek to now have 2 different plane versions. Although the separate helicopter one I largely understand.

And.. I don't see much of a reason at all for the original to be more expensive than the other 2. I expect it may be reduced soon perhaps?

I quite like the helicopter version, but I won't be buying Airliner...
