I rarely use the News app so excuse me if this has already been discussed...

I was using the News app, reading a "Cult of Mac" article about the Apple Watch. When I got to the end of the article, I kept scrolling down and up pops two explicit porn ads.

Is this common with the app?

Most of the time ads are based off websites you browse/what is clicked. Either you or maybe someone else has been doing some browsing that would make an X rated as pop up.

If it was someone else, it wouldn't even need to be someone browsing from your phone. If you have a Mac someone else has access to, with iCloud sync for safari and such, it would sync and show ads on your phone as well.

What lagwagon said. You can also try disabling ad tracking under Privacy > Advertising and turn on Do Not Track on Safari.
