X11 on mac air

Hello,
Trying to paste into X11. Copying from OSX terminal, text files etc. and following multiple types of instructions (middle click, first left click then middle click, command v, control v, command p, control p, command c) and nothing seems to work. I see that there are issues with this in in leopard. I have Mac OS 10.5.8. Any ideas?????

you might have to check "enable syncing" in the pasteboard preferences.
