Im running my xbox 360 via my powerbook(Osx 10.4) wireless but i have a strict nat.

I followed this guide:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV4qd1RHmH8&e

But when i follow the port forwarding guide for my router i cant open the ports. I'm trying to forward the ports for 192.168.2.1 but when i try and save the changes it says: The private IP address is invalid. It should not be the Router's LAN IP.

Any advice/what im doing wrong, on how i can forward the ports so i can get a open nat?

thanks

Is 192.168.2.1 the IP of your XBox? Most likely it is not; it is the router's IP. Put the IP of the XBox in the field instead.

erm i dont quite follow...

Here are my current settings on my xbox:

IP address: 10.0.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.0.0.1

Primary DNS: 192.168.2.1
Preferred DNS: [My IP address from my PowerBook]

Above settings work and get my online but with a Moderate NAT

Okay, I see what you're doing:

Internet <--> Router <--> Mac (10.0.0.1) <--> (10.0.0.2) Xbox

Okay so configure your router to forward the port(s) in question to the IP of your Mac. Then configure your Mac to forward that port to 10.0.0.2 (your XBox).

FYI, there's no need to hide the IP of your Powerbook. It's most likely an RFC1918 address that everyone uses anyway.

thanks for the reply, I go to forward my ports it only allows me to put the end bit in. So its 192.168.2.X the primary DNS server on my xbox is 192.168.2.1 so i assumed if i wanted to forward the ports i would forward them on the 192.168.2.1 but when i put the port numbers in and try and save it i get an error saying:
The private IP address is invalid. It should not be the Router's LAN IP.

Login to your router, get a list of all the devices connected to your router.
Your xbox should appear, take note of the IP address that it has - maybe "192.168.2.3" or something similar. Use that IP address. You will not be able to use the routers IP address.

If my diagram above is right, then you'll want to forward those ports to your _PowerBook_, not the Xbox, as it's not on the same subnet.

No, the router needs to know the address of the next box other than itself to forward the traffic on to. Based on the thread's topic, that should be your Powerbook. Whatever your Powerbook's address on the 192.168.2.0 subnet is, that is the value you should use. From terminal on the Powerbook, you can type ifconfig and look at all of the inet values (it should probably be either en0 or en1) for one that looks like 192.168.2.x. That is the value to use.

Ok xbox live is back up and running and im still with a moderate NAT.

When im connected to xbox live it only shows my laptop is connected to my wireless network not my xbox. So i assume i need to forward the ports for my laptops address? 192.168.2.2
