XCode 4.4.1 to Xcode 4.5 in Mountain Lion

I got the XCode 4.4.1 and selected the Command Line options so it installed the gcc compiler. This is on Mountain Lion.

Gcc is version 4.2

XCode 4.5 was just released. If I install it, will it update the Gcc to a newer version even though it was a separate install? Or will it just ignore it?

It's likely to be a slightly newer version, since 4.5 was released at a later date than 4.4.1.

Nothing will change until you redownload the command-line utilities to update them (from within Xcode, the same as usual). Or use Xcode's internal gcc via xcrun command.

gcc is still 4.2.1 for the newest Xcode. I don't think Apple will update gcc anymore since they have llvm and clang now.

But you can still update the command line tools from Xcode 4.5. There won't be any problems.
