I currently have the i7/128gb/8gb. Curious what difference the i7 makes versus the i5 for compiling given the slower disk IO in the 128gb.

Have been testing with the standardised test here: https://github.com/ashfurrow/xcode-hardware-performance

I achieve an average fresh build time of 33s. This compares favourably to the i7/512gb/16gb which appears to get 32s.

Had anyone got a configuration of the i5 who would be willing to post their times building the same project?

I tried doing this but there are too many undocumented issues to build cleanly. Sorry

What compiler are you using? GCC or Apple’s own LLVM?
