I know about the rumors, but wanted to see if anyone knew additional leak details on if it will be a successor to the current Pro Display or if it is going to be a more economical model.

From what I gather, it would be insane not to hold off since it sounds like there is a major boost in the # of mini led's going into the display and also a bump to 120hz.

Any reasons to actually not hold off?

I’ve owned an XDR since day one, and while it’s the best 6K display overall, it would be wise to wait for its successor. The “dirty screen” effect and the multiple minor issues with the panel have been disappointing.

I think its a bad buy given the timing of the display rumors. Especially with the 'pro' moniker looks like = 120Hz. So I bet some faster refresh, better options displays are coming. Not sure if there will be a 6K 120 monitor, but maybe a 4.5k or 5k 120 coming? Worth it to wait if you can imo!

So you’re expecting a substantially better display for substantially less money? Clearly you don’t know Apple very well.

I have a similar question on wether a used 21.5" LG Ultrafine is a bad buy right now (for about 300USD).

While a 24" 4.5K Apple-designed display would be ideal, I don't know if there's validity to that rumor or how far out it would be (and the very likely possibility that if it is real, it will have white bezels...)

I'm in a similar boat, although I would never consider the XDR Pro Display at full retail price right now. But even for a decently discounted version, I think it may still make sense to wait. Unless you really need it now, I agree with others that while a true 32" 6K120 successor may not come, a 4.5k/5K @ 120hz in the 27" range would be sweet. FWIW, I'm personally going to wait until next year to make a decision and hope Apple releases something.

I think it depends on why consider the current Pro Display XDR at the first place.

If it's mostly because it's an apple display (which are considered good, at least IMO) and the screen size doesn't matter much then waiting would make sense.

If It's because of the high PPI at 32" (it was my reason for purchasing it) then it would be a question of urgency IMO. If the display is required now to do the work (or improve it) then I don't think it's worth the wait. I doubt the price would drop if it includes Mini LED and/or be 120Hz.

Also, if 6k@120Hz will be a thing, it's a lot of bandwidth so driving it will require adequate hardware. If multi-monitor setup is also a consideration then it might be even more of a problem.
One more thing about 120Hz, I have an iPhone, iPad and MBP all with "ProMotion" and when I use the Pro Display XDR I don't feel a huge difference, like I feel when using a 60Hz iPhone/iPad.

TL;DR - IMO, if you need it now to do your work - get it. Otherwise, wait and bet on the price, features and launch date.

The larger the screen, the further away it is, and thus the less noticeable high refresh rates become--in my findings.

Even on my new MBP, I tried promotion scrolling on Safari Tech Preview, and it wasn't an enormous difference. The screen is just too big and too far from your eyes for your brain to be able to really pick up on it. I'm sure the lack of touch screen also effects how it is perceived.

Makes sense. I worried myself that after using ProMotion on other devices I would miss it on the larger display but fortunately that’s not the case.

Btw, the device I feel it lacking the most is the iPad mini. It feels laggy after getting used to 120Hz scrolling.
