I just saw an ad for Xdrive.com, featuring several icons from OS X. But their site says that they don't support the Mac. So I sent them this email:

I saw an ad for Xdrive, saying I could store pictures, music, videos, documents, etc. In the ad, there were icons for each of these file types - from Apple iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie, and Microsoft Word for Mac. Then when I actually went onto your site, it says that you don't support Macs. Yet the icons in your ad were all from the Mac OS. What an insult.

I can't wait to see what they say ;)

Well, I got a reply this morning and it was certainly not what I expected.

They're currently testing Xdrive with Panther, and it works quite well with Safari, Firebird, and Netscape. They just don't want to officially announce it on their site yet because there are still some bugs they want to work out, but apparently their service should work fine on a Mac.

There are four known issues for this platform:

1) The tree frame is not expandable (like on Internet Explorer for Windows)
- a minor UI issue

2) Beta Folder Upload does not work at this time for Mac
- the Java Virtual Machine for OS X v10.1 has a bug in it. Sun's JVM v. 1.4 is only available for OS X v. 10.2, not for v. 10.1

3) At time the automated tree refresh operation stops
- Usually happens when completing an operation in "Shared Items"
- it appears as if the application has locked up
- it usually can only be resolved by closing the browser

4) A pop-up blocker is now intergrated with navigator 7.10. If ther user is logged into their Xdrive account the first time a pop-up is initiated, a warning will appear requesting the user to accept or decline pop-ups from the domain (plus.xdrive.com or workgroup.xdrive.com)

However, if the user has enabled Pop-up Manager and the Xdrive domains are not already added to the list of "Allowed Web sites" then the user cannot Open or View their files directly from their Xdrive. (Doing so initiates a pop-up viewer). There is a small exclamation mark in a yellow sunburst that appears on the browser status line. However, there are no other indications that something is wrong with the user's settings.

The workaround for this is to go to Tools > Pop-up Manager > About Pop-up Blocking

Click Yes when you are asked if you would like to block popups and set preferences.

Click Allowed Sites, and enter the following sites:

plus.xdrive.com
workgroup.xdrive.com
www.xdrive.com

This will allow you to use your Xdrive account with almost complete functionality.

That's good to hear, and I feel bad about calling their ad an insult. I think an apology is in order.
