What's the deal with this? I see the app in the app store but says ios only, not certified for mac. I also saw a thread listed above this post that Apple has added this to Apple TV. But I am not interested in paying for an Apple TV subscription just to access Xfinity stream. Is there a workaround? WTF?

I can stream in my browser at https://www.xfinity.com/stream/. I can't get it to work in Safari, but it works fine in Firefox.

I believe adding it to Apple TV means adding an App to the Apple TV device. You wouldn't need a subscription to Apple TV (the service).

It's so unfortunate that Apple use the name "Apple TV" to refer to three different things - the device, the subscription service, and the app (which runs on the device as well as some smart TVs).

Yeah, that's right. Should work right from the browser without an app.

Edit: Just tried it and works fine with Edge.

I don't know when it happened, but Xfinity has released the "full" Xfinity Stream app for the Apple TV. It works on my Apple TV HD and I was able to install right from the Apple TV app store.

I installed the app. Upon first opening, you're greeted with the login page, which included a 3D barcode that took my iphone right to the Xfinity login page. About 10 seconds later, the XStream app on the aTV was fully logged in.

There was a disclaimer page saying that currently, Xfinity does not charge a fee for the use of the stream app, but they reserve the right to do so in the future. I believe this is boilerplate and recall that when the Roku version of the app was released a few years ago, they had the same notification.

As for the app, I have full access to Live TV via the grid. I also have access to recorded programs on my DVR. I have an older DVR that has on-board storage and I believe that this app can access those recordings. I don't think it has full access to On-Demand PPV content.

That sounds a lot like how Xfinity Stream works on my FireStick. The Xfinity app is "beta" but works fine. And no fee for that.

You could be right, but I do see some content that I would have to purchase. For example, I see the category "Now in theaters" which offers me paid content.

And when you are away from your home network ip address, like on a browser traveling, some channels and programs are not available, even live. I have run into that before on my Windows notebook. Some sort of contractual issue with the content owners I believe. But I have always been able to access my DVR'ed stuff.

Yeah, I noticed that. I was connected to a different router and the content wouldn't play, reporting that for licensing reasons I had to connect to my xfinity router using Wi-Fi.
