I just finished using the Xfinity wifi network for three hours while away from my home.

I believe it is a joint effort between comcast, optimum and time warner to provide free wifi within the NY metro area.

It worked very well and all I needed to do was after two hours enter my log in info again.

This may be the future.

Since most of the time I’ll be in the area I’m thinking of canceling my 3 g order.

Makes sense right?

For just an extra 130 you have the option of 3G if you leave the area, and you get built in GPS. Unless you're really hurting for money (which would really mean you shouldn't be buying an iPad at all) I would stick with your preorder.

No...I’m not hurting for money...but I don’t think i’ll spend that great a percentage of my time outside the free zone.... most of my travels are to europe and the 3G version would only work there with some modifications.

The 130 and 30 a month could maybe go towards a new macbook pro instead.

No modifications required for overseas use all you need is a microsim and the 30 per month is only when you want it not ongoing thing
