I am wondering if there is an X-Fire type client out there that runs native on OSX but is also cross platform.

Basically I want my friend to be able to see what games I am playing in OS X (Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Battlefield 2 (via Cider Home Port), WoW, etc.) and be able to message me in game or join me if possible. Does a client like this exist? Is Gamespy Cross platform? Any help would be appreciated!

No.
There's [actually] no solution out there.

It exists only an PlugIn for Adium which let's you write with your buddies and see what they are playin'.
Also the xfire-ingame notification works [what game, how long] and will be transmitted too [for stats on your XFire Page e.g.].

That's all.
No joining, no voice-chat nor anything else.
Just these few things.

But, isn't enough ? :D

I use it heavily … :D
Following an picture showing the integration inside Adium.

All known game where exists an Windows pendant, are supported.
As shown on my XFire page; Click 'Show Entire Gaming History' under the listing of played games. :D
Except a few games i've played all on my Mac's while Adium was running.

These one's i've played on Windows using the original XFire client:
C&C Red Alert, C&C Red Alert 2, C&C Renegade and Earth 2160.

Click'it !?

Helpful ? :)

I've entirely forgotten something extraordinary …

„There's one more thing !”

It exists an native and entire new Macintosh client for Mac OS X ! :D

But, it is still closed beta. ;)
Means there's no download or anything help yet.

It has a whole bunch of great features:

  • "Made in the F.R.G." - „Made in Germany” :D
  • Show, delete and add Xfire-Buddies
  • Show 'Status Messages' -/- Own customized 'Status Messages'
  • Show the game & server who's your buddy playing
  • If the corresponding game of your buddy is installed, you can run it and join the server instantly
  • Show the icon of the game
  • Show your actual played game your buddies
  • Show the IP of the server you actually playing on
  • Set the IP of the server you actually playing on manually [if it's hidden through the server admin]
  • Show details of the server your buddies playing on [Number of players, Map et cetera]
  • Certainly, chat with your buddies
  • Show and send 'Type Notification' [Is your buddy actually typing?]
  • Show smileys inside chat's
  • Growl notifications if someone goes off or comes online or sends something to you]
  • Diverse sounds if you get a messages; you sends one et cetera
Remember, there's no support for file exchange nor voice chat.
As it is still BETA doesn't means that those features aren't implemented until the shiny new Final will rise like the phoenix from ash … :D

Following a picture shows the upcoming rise of the new phoenix;

Yeah I got that, but surely there is a site with some info, screen shots, etc. When I type iFire on Google nothing comes up.

Thanks for this info, it is most refreshing! Any idea when they will be giving out beta invites if at all? I REALLY, REALLY need Xfire capability in OS X as I am testing some modded windows games running under os x and need friends to be able to join me :p

No, i haven't any idea when it will released an BETA for other then dev's and people like that nor an offical date or the final.

„It’s done, when it’s done.”

I only can tell you, that the client was up to now quite fast developed.
It tooks from middle of the year 2007 to now to get this things up.
The closed BETA phase is still there since november '07.
It should took not basically longer to get final release-state, but that is my opinion! ;)
But, when it comes up, i don't know. ;)

It exists still a place where the developer, testers for the closed BETA and all other ones who are interested in exchange experience and something like that.
As you know, the client is developed in germany, it is on an german forum.
The thread is there:
German forum thread
Translated through Google:
http://translate.google.com/transla...n&ie=UTF-8]The thread translated using Google

But don't expect to much.
That's the unoffical public place for things about the client.
The main exchange happens via XFire chat's between developers and testers.

If you really, really need the XFire capability in OS X you still can use the Adium PlugIn, right ?
I would happy if you add me as an friend through XFire. :p
Just add me as "Smartcom5". :D

Was this things helpful ? :)

Looks good, I used xblaze but then something happened and xFlame doesnt work on PPC.

ChrisN

Right, XBlaze is just within version 1.3 of Adium broken due to broad technological changes.
That's why i still use version 1.2.4 of Adium.

Hi Chris,
could you please post the crash log here?
I'm the developer of iFire and I'd like to fix this bug. Did the friend you clicked on play a game when iFire crashed? The reason for the crash could be an error while trying to get information about a game server. I do not own all games supported by iFire, so I wasn't able to make sure that they all work with iFire.

Thanks for your help,
Florian

Battlefield 2 ?

Hi Flo. :D
Seems that i've already try to spread out your work.

I suppose his friend still plays Battlefield 2 ?
I've got also the same error; Quit just instantly.

We've just figured out, that this is a malfunction that happens within Qstat, a stats framework used inside iFire.
It occurs [projected on my situation] still while iFire try to get informations about the server the friend is playing on;
Qstats just returns some crappy info's that lets iFire crashing.

Ask Flo, he already has a work-around for it to fix it.
I got it on my own, but due to XFire's missing feature of a chat log/message history i can't figure it out, what i exactly have done to get it work.

Flo, You are the man!! What a great X-Fire Clone.. so much better then XFlame.

Do you have any plans to add Growl support for game messages, like "PLAYER HAS JOINED _____ GAME." That would be nice so we can see when our friends are playing games when the program is minimized.

I also found a glitch/error For some reason iFire does not find that I have Enemy Territory: Quake Wars installed. It is on the iFire supported games list but does not seem to be found. iFire found my COD 4, WOW, War3, and SPORE installs just fine though. My Quake Wars is installed in the default location in the default way with up to date patches.

Last question if you have time: Does iFire do tracking of what games you play and when so it updates your X-Fire profile? I think you should e-mail the X-Fire team and show them what you done - maybe they will help you and make it the offical mac client -we'll support you!!

thanks!

Hi,
I thought I had fixed the problem with battlefield 2, but I didnt check all games which are supported by qstat, maybe some morenbeside bf2 dont work correctly...
Adding a Growl message which shows that someone began playing shouldnt be a problem, I'll do this in the next
version.
The issue with Quake Wars might be a typo in the list of Mac games in iFire... Could you please tell
me the name of the Quake Wars .app file? Are you maybe using a
localized version?(dont know whether there is one...)
The Xfire-homepage should show how long you've played which games auromatically...

I'll start working on an update when I come home at sunday. when my iPod finds an open wifi hotspot again I might look into this thread again before...

Flo

As i remember does have iFire already support for Growl ?!

And regarding the stats on your XFire page;
All XFire clones does tacking it right. :D
My whole stats are just tracked using the XBlaze Plug-In, MacFire and also iFire.

Remember:
It a client register the game itself, the XFire protocol will do the rest. ;)
Therefor iFire does tracking already to stats.

The only limitation exists in the advanced in-game stats that are recorded by XFire itself due to the in-game capabilities that no other client support [yet].
But that's just negligible cause those one are only at BETA-status within XFire itself.
Also only on those games ...

Currently we are tracking stats for:
  • Quake 3 Arena
  • Quake 4
  • Jedi Academy Multiplayer
  • Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
  • Medal of Honor: Allied Assault | Breakthrough | Spearhead
  • Call of Duty MP
  • Call of Duty UO
Source: XFire FAQ
As you see, those just a fragment of the whole bunch of tracked games via XFire and aren't the normal stats.

The advanced stats are also seperated from the others, while on this additional stats are recorded [Kill/Death Ratio, used weapons and so on].
You could see it e.g. on my XFire page, it's located below the favorite servers.

The other games are just recored by time and listet at top on 'Game history'. :)
Helpful ? :apple:

Okay, I found reason for the ET: Quake Wars bug.
I´ll upload the update tomorrow, just need some more testing, because I´ve made quite many changes:

Version 0.12
- Added support for TeamSpeak, Ventrilo and Mumble:
- Voice software & voice server are now displayed in the info drawer
- One-click joining to your friends TS2-server
- Your friends can see which voice software you are using and one-click join on your server (if you´ve specified the IP manually, auto-detection doesn´t work yet, sorry)
- The info-drawer can now be closed by pressing ESC
- Offline contacts can now be hidden in the buddylist
- Added: Growl notification when a buddy starts playing
- Added Warcraft 3: TFT, removed RoC
- Fixed login problems with case-sensitive passwords
- Fixed game detection for ET:Quake Wars
- Timestamps are gray now and have seconds

Ah, btw, I think I´ve found a method to realize "Xfire In-Game", but it´ll be quite difficult and PunkBuster might think that it´s a hack (okay, it IS a hack, but not a "bad" one ;) ).

plz help me ...
