xfx6870 (ZNBC) or (ZNFC) in macpro 1,1??

Hi all.

At home i have installed the xfx6870 ZNFC in my mp 1,1 an it works fine.

Now i want a new solution in my office
Mythoughts:
xfx6870 znBc (Black edition) an a cinema display 27"

Now my question:
Will the mdp will work on the xfx with my acd?
Or do i have to buy an adapter? dvi->mdp?

Could you tell me what (if anything) you had to install to make the 6870 work in your MP?

Its realy simple

There are all informations you need.
Also a little Userguide how i made it.

Download and install the 3driver (dont know if the 10.6.8 also install it)
Buy the xfx 6870 ZNFC and the 2 power cable (i bought both on amazon)
Shutdown mp - remove the old card and plug the 2 cable on mainboard.
Put in the XFX an plug the 2cable into the card.
Close cover, boot and have fun

Edit means:
I have searched an hour now for any information.
All reference designs from the 6870 works (xfx, msi, saphire)
But no information how it works with an apple display (mdp).

Thanks for the info. If ever Cin comes by this thread, I'm wondering if those issues with iTunes and Quicktime are widespread. Some ppl (on his own website) are reporting that, with the 6870, iTunes is grinding the enitre computer to a crawl.

Do you have this issue, TimED? Which display (and connection) are you using at home?

no idea about itunes and quicktime problems, I only know what people report and not too many do. don't have a mac pro or a 6870 for that matter so can't really provide more info.

Hi there

On my link i´ve reportet the things that works here on MP 1,1.

A short list here:
cs5 - ok ; cs4 - ok ; Itunes - ok ; motion - ok ; Ilife11 + Iwork11 - ok ;
WoW - ok.

Steam don´t starts any games i´ve loaded:
Portal ; Soldier of Fortune pack ; Torchlight.

In VmWare i have no problems with Torchlight at this point.

Itunes and Quicktime works normal at home.
No problems so far.

EDIT: DvD Player starts up - makes the spinning ball (15sec i think) and crashes without warning.
At this point i use VLC to watch dvd on my mac.

Only thing i find out:
The temps in 3d are very high.
In this case only WoW make the Fan go to high speed.
I have to speed up the Fans like i´ve told in the other Forum.
May other card designs stay cooler, like the vaporx or the msi.

Today i have ordered 2 xfx6870 for the office, so i can test how it works
with big Photoshop files
I think a 2GB fullcolor EPS will be a good test

I´m back again

Now i tested the "problems".

With the ATY_init i have the problems, someone have.

dvd works - steam also.
But quicktime an itunes starts with a bad report.
With the init the os cant initialize the radeon.

without the init - QT and IT works fine, but the dvd and steam dont work.

Today (back from my holiday) i installed 2 R6870 her in the office.
everything works fine also without the init.
