Really is a great phone, with top of the line hardware, at a very reasonable price of $500 ? Only questions would be MIUI, and quality updates. And of course they not being sold in the U.S. officially.

This is what smartphones should be selling for. I understand Samsung makes their phones a notch even higher quality, better display, better hardware, but that doesn't justify them charging $1,000+ compared to $500 for this phone. The S10+ isn't double the better phone compared to the Mi 9

I could see Xiamoi really giving Samsung some competition here and more so in the future. Really at the end of the day, why is the S10+ 100% higher priced compared to this Mi 9? Yes the S10+ is a better phone, no question, but it is certainly not 100% better.

Cant blame Apple, Samsung etc for charging that much when people are willing to pay. It is insane to me how people have become conditioned to buy these outrageously priced phones every year so I cant blame these companies for making money

Well considering that the Chinese phone manufacturers possibly got to this level via...how should I put this diplomatically...IP assimilation...it stands to reason they can afford to offer their wares at lower prices. They did not have to start at ground zero on R&D. Look at the recent headlines at what Huawei was caught doing. Look at the extent to which these companies go to get IP from Apple and others. There were Chinese Nationals embedded as employees of Apple caught out for industrial espionage.

Why did it take over a decade for Apple and Samsung products to get to this level yet Huawei and Xiaomi can get there and in some specs surpass these tech giants seemingly overnight? Really, logically and reasonably how could that happen? Their products were laughable not that long ago. I could see logical progression in Apple and Samsung products (and yes Samsung copied blatantly to get to a plateau from which they could actually start to innovate) .

Yes they (Huawei and Xiaomi) have excellent engineers and incredible vision of their own and that shows in the bells and whistles their phones now have that the rest don't. But we can't pretend they didn't get to where they are all on their own. One company in particular has been caught out red handed.

I'll make no judgements on this. I just state it as a reason they can offer their products at the prices they do. Also, we don't know the degree to which their government supports and subsidizes their efforts. It's a very different economic model that they operate under.

These phones are no problem if you root them and install another ROM.
With Stock MIUI is a no go.

Why? It has proper swipe gesture navigation unlike iOS and Android P. It looks nice, they have some decent designers on the team, it reminds me of proper iOS7 evolution

For the record I like Xiaomi phones, they offer amazing hardware for the money, I just don't trust the software.

Haven't used Xiaomi in 2 years. Even though you can root it and flash other versions of Android (stock or MIUI, doesn't matter), it's really a shame. I'm not even considering their phones at the moment, but this alone will push me further away from them.

Thx for the link.

The only thing I wish Xiaomi does is to quickly propagate their lineup to other markets. Obviously China gets them first, but Xiaomi is quite picky in pushing their flagship lineup to other markets.

Considering how the Mi9 performs (almost matching iPhone XS Max), I'm just baffled how many people are still willing to pay $900-$1k for Samsung/Pixel phones.

SD855 sounds really impressive, and if Xiaomi can do a Mi9 for just €450, I can’t wait for the Pocophone F2. Ditch the shiny glossy back and save maybe €100-150? Sounds sweet.
