"Xiaomi has unveiled two phones at its launch event in Shenzhen: the Mi 8and a Mi 8 Explorer Edition, which has an in-display fingerprint reader and a transparent back.

The Chinese manufacturer is rolling out a third variant dubbed the Mi 8 SE that's aimed at a lower price point. The standard Mi 8 starts off at the equivalent of $420, but the Mi 8 SE will cost just $280. The phone shares a similar aesthetic as the standard Mi 8, but the highlight is that it marks the global debut of the Snapdragon 710, Qualcomm's latest mid-tier chipset.

The Snapdragon 710 is aimed at delivering flagship-class performance at the mid-range segment, with the chipset offering eight Kryo cores in a 4x4 configuration. The four performance cores go up to 2.2GHz, and the four energy-efficient cores are clocked at 1.7GHz. The chipset also enables AI capabilities similar to that of the Snapdragon 845.

As for the device itself, the Mi 8 SE comes with a 5.8-inch AMOLED panel, dual 12MP + 5MP cameras at the back, 20MP front shooter, and a 3120mAh battery. All three devices Xiaomi unveiled today run MIUI 10 out of the box, which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo.

The Mi 8 SE will go up for sale in China next month for ¥1,799, or $280. There's no information regarding global availability yet, but we should know more in the coming weeks."

Lol on the iPhone X users, 420 dollar for a phone with a true 3D face-id and a under display fingerprint scanner. And just $280 dollar for the SE version with an OLED panel!

$280 for an OLED panel and a 710 is not bad at all. Cameras are going to be the question and it's pretty much a given that it won't work with CDMA networks in the US.

What an absolute knockoff! It also comes with the Chinese government spying on you.

So your US government or whatever does not spying on you? LOL....People from West having very short memories. I am carrying all short of Chinese phones, for example, Huawei and Xiaomi and Smartisan and ZTE.

Plus, Xiaomi kick started the movement to the bezeless display. To be honest, this looks nothing like whatever phone you are implying. The rear mounted fringer print censor is dead give away.

Well, the US government warned us about using ZTE phones, for example, so I just lump all these Chinese phonemakers together. It’s an iPhone X knockoff, but keep telling yourself it’s not.

Does this really have devolve into a pissing match about governments and what is an iPhone X clone or not? Yes Android phones right now are copying the iPhone just like every other time the iPhone has a "new" design. That's just how it is right now.

Moving back to the phone, does the SE support wireless charging?

Yet, US government spies everyone in the earth. But they never tell you. US government never have second thought when critizing other government.

And iPhone X copied essential phone.

The US Government doesn't 'spy' on everyone on earth. What it does do is capture all wireless signals and then uses AI to parse out data that might indicate a threat to the US.

And yes, iPhone X copied the essential phones cutout, which is not the same as Xiaomi cloning the entire phones design and UI. Xiaomi is known as the largest copycat of Apple products in the world. The reason they can sell so cheap in places like China and Russia is because they don't have to spend any money on R&D. The flip side is they can't openly sell in the West without getting sued for IP theft.
