XP will give you better framerates with the same games, but some games are Vista-only...its up to you what is more important :)

XP. Vista is just a bloated version of XP (much as Leopard is simply a fatter version of Tiger).

There aren't many games that are vista only anyways. Even if you wanted DX10, your MBP won't be giving you smooth frame rate.

I was just wondering what games are vista-only.
Donk-A.

I know Halo 2 is one of them. I don't know what else is Vista only? Not many games are Vista-only yet, due to the vast marketshare of XP. But I'd imagine that MS wants to push PC developers to make games Vista-only to make people move to their new OS...

sorry for hijacking but just a simple question

how come my EA sports games such as NHL07 and Tiger Woods 07 play slow and choppy when played in XP on my MBP w ATI x1600 128 MB and play fine in vista. im using the same boot camp 2.0 drivers.

I would have to say XP for the time being.

why invest twice.. lol

if you don't play ancient games (>2 years old), go with Vista, DX 10 is the future, and everybody knows, every mac ppl care about "future proof".

XP... it requires less than Vista in terms of memory, Ram, etc...

modern computers mostly have >1.5G memory, there is no problem with Vista.

Vista just need as much memory as leopard. while XP needs less than Tiger. But 1G~2G should run Vista beautifully already.

i have vista and i would recommend xp

vista video drivers were a mess until just recently and still are not as fully featured as xp

not to mention..better fps on games

vista has dx10, but honestly the 8600GT isn't powerful enough to really use it yet

Halo 2 got pretty bad reviews.

If you really want to play it, there is a hack that allows it to be played in XP.

I would recommend XP.

8600GT really isn't that great a DX10 card anyway, but it is a superb mobile DX9 card. Moreover, Vista is bug-ridden bloatware. Many hoped that SP1 would resolve most of the issues with this OS but as usual were let down. There's no point whatsoever in running Vista over XP for gaming, it simply chews up your resources and consequently, your frame rates.
Go with XP!
