I hate to say it but I AM going to HAVE to run windows when I get my new Macbook Pro. Only for a bit of Office work and maybe a few games.

Going to use bootcamp and very little HDD space

So XP or Vista? Vista looks more shiny and being a life long mac user that's important but would there be compatibility problem. Oh and 64 bit? what benefits?

thanks in advance:)

vista needs a bigger partition than XP, and vista will be NTFS instead of the option of either FAT or NTFS (you can read/write to FAT from OS X too)

so personally i'd say XP, and thats what i went with too. was just easier that way imo.

XP, unless you want Vista-only games...instead of having to reboot for Office, I would recommend Parallels or VMWare's Fusion virtualization software so you can run the apps without restarting (with both you can use your Windows partition)

vista is full of glitches and takes so much RAM, plus it takes up much more space. XP o nthe other hand is pretty much glitch-free and it doesnt take up as much space as vista, i would only get vista if you want to play some vista only games.

p.s. i think their is 64 bit XP

Windows 64-bit on your Mac is not ready for primetime -- driver and application issues, so you will want to steer clear of Vista or XP 64-bit. With the 32-bit versions, you can recognize 3GB of RAM, which is plenty for running Office!

I've had Vista installed and recently purchased XP Home OEM and installed it. Vista runs really well on my MBP, but XP runs VERY VERY nicely. Very snappy and quick starting.

My opinion: go XP, unless you have a requirement to use Vista.

Well for me, the whole point of putting Windows on a Mac is compatibility (running software/hardware that only runs in Windows).

Windows XP is far more compatible than Vista (some have problems getting hardware that is supported by the Mac running in Vista), so XP is the obvious choice for me.

I should probably also point out that in many ways Win XP 64bit is actually worse/less compatible than the 64bit version of Vista. So if you really must have a 64bit version of Windows, go Vista.

oh definitely, xp.

vista is a resource hog. there are incompatiblity issues.
