Doesn’t matter when the carrier can lock the eSIM. You basically have a locked phone with one free SIM, not true dual SIM phone.

Same modem on all models. No Qualcomm vs Intel debate

If you buy MSRP they should have no reason or right to lock

Nope, read the fine print.

eSIM will be available later this year through a software update. Use of eSIM requires a wireless service plan (which may include restrictions on switching service providers and roaming, even after contract expiration). Not all carriers support eSIM. Use of eSIM in iPhone may be disabled when purchased from some carriers. See your carrier for details. To learn more, visit https://support.apple.com/kb/HT209044.

AT&T is locking eSIM on iPads, which are sold unlocked. This is an outrage.

At least this year I don't have to buy the different model modem (tmobile) at launch. Nice to get a sim free model with all the bands at launch.

Agreed. Never really understood why you guys in the US didn't.

Yikes. So if a person is on post paid plan with an un-financed iPhone they would unlock immediately after cancel service? Is this our new consumer friendly FCC at work?

No. Basically carriers can lock eSIM indefinitely, even if you finish your contract or pay in full, per Apple’s own footnote.

So I buy a phone and pay $1200 to apple. I use it on my carrier for a few months, quit my carrier, and my carrier can say sorry your phone is a brick unless you come back to us?

Basically the carrier can lock the eSIM indefinitely, so you end up with basically a single SIM iPhone. What bollocks.

I have an IPhone X will that sim will fit with an unlocked phone?
Yes

This sounds like one of those things, while technically possible, would never be done. That makes no sense.

It is what being done on iPads. Cellular iPads with eSIM in the US had AT&T locking the eSIM, making the eSIM useless.

How long after launch does Apple make a Sim-Free version of their phone?
I checked out the Xr and it doesn't seem to have that option.

Sounds like an ATT thing. I don't think T-Mobile would ever do this luckily.

You can still use a regular sim or? Sorry not sure how this works.

Feck Apple and their eSIMs. Why can’t we have the China model. No one would complain.

You can have the China model, I assure you. Just because it's made for Chinese market doesn't mean that you won't be able to buy it online.

What I need to know is if the Xr will be available with true physical dual-sim in China. If so, I will for sure be buying this model.

You’ll have to import it though. Or buy it off someone that would put $100 more to the price.

Apple should give us a choice. eSIMs are terrible, considering carriers can lock them.

Must be some sort of financial benefit. Why else would Apple care.

Yes, but you paid for a dual SIM phone, yet a carrier can just turn it into a single SIM phone.
Do carriers have this in their TOA?
Ridiculous, if you use our service we have the right to screw with your hardware.
