No placebo for me. The Face ID is notably faster than it was my X.

I had a couple of different X models and reset Face ID multiple times to see if that helped and it always had a little lag.

Many times the screen unlocks while I am making my swipe.

I think iOS 12 made all the difference. Face ID became much faster on my X after iOS 12 came out. It’s probably even quicker on my XS max but for me it was a bigger difference going from 11 to 12 on my X.

Like the others said, it's iOS 12. Noticeable right after the upgrade -- the X would unlock as fast as I can swipe up. My X and Xs Max unlock at the same speed.

It’s not really much faster.

I’ve compared the two directly. For the time being I have an XS, I also have a X. There’s also a few YouTube videos comparing it

It’s faster, but not by much. Maybe a smidge faster though. There’s a reason Apple didn’t call it “second gen Face ID”

My X got slightly faster with iOS 12 ,but my Xs is able to pickup my face from a few angles that my X could not. I do not have to be right over it to grab my face an unlock. And it is definitely quicker to scan and unlock than before.
