I'm contemplating if I really need 512GB, and to justify the cost of the XS Max, by going by way of 256GB. Would their be any reason why 512GB would be highly recommended? I've been scanning the threads, and it seems, to me at least, more here are opting for 256GB over the 512GB.

512GB is a massive amount of storage. Price-to-size ratio is also significantly inflated. I'm going with 256GB as that is what I currently have and I have ~160GB free.

I'm not upgrading from my 256GB 8 Plus... but if I was I'd be going with the 256GB Max.

After a year I have 230 of 256GB still available so there's no way I'd ever need 512GB doing what I do now... and that is streaming my music, movies and porn.

It's nice to have the storage if I want to copy movies that aren't available to stream to my phone (I have 400+ digital copies to go with my discs) but there's no way I'd ever fill up the phone even if I did.

So it really boils down to will you use the storage? Most won't.
