Hi,

I recently bought an Xserve 2.1. I also bought a mini-DVI to HDMI adaptor to be able to connect it to an external monitor but the monitor won't receive any signal. The system identifier light is also flashing indicating an alarm, this doesn't happen all the time but I haven't been able to figure out what is triggering it.

Can I assume the GPU is fried? Or is the system not compatible with mini-DVI to HDMI and only with mini-DVI to VGA?
The diagnostic LEDs inside the Xserve don't indicate any problem from what I could find in the Service Source...

My guess is that the xserve only works with VGA or DVI. I couldn't find the data sheet for Xserve2.1 though, so hard to say for sure.

What I can say though is that I once tried to connect a VGA connection through a VGA to DVI adapter and a DVI to HDMI cable. That did not work, since the VGA signal was analog and HDMI only supported digital.

Hey! Thanks for replying, it does work with DVI to HDMI. The problem was the GPU, I found one on eBay, replaced it and DVI to HDM is working fine.
