Hi

I have finally got my new xserve and this is all new to me , I have managed to get most things set up nicely ( I think )... But I am trying to get my server to sit between two networks one being the internet and the second being my LAN acting as a gateway... That easy enough But ...

On the Lan side I have second adsl line that connects to my remote locations (6) via an MPLS over adsl setup.

Internet >>> Modem >>> xserve>>>switch >>> Lan ... This works fine

What I want is

Internet >>>Modem>>>xserve>>>router/Switch >>>Lan
.................................................. |
......................................... external private "Wan"

I want to be able to use the xserve to supply function to the "private WAN" and to be used as an access point from the internet.

As I say I can get this all working if I just use my "inhouse LAN" but I cant figure out how to connect the second router to the system.

Any suggestions and what other info will be helpful

Thx Stuboy

Well first you need routers with dd-wrt

Then it's pretty straightforward to setup eoip tunnels, which are basically an ethernet tunnel to connect routers across the internet (like having a very long ethernet cable) ;)

Mpls

Thanx Milk242 ......I have read a bit about this (most of it over my head) it looks like a possible solution , except that it does not appear that it will work over our MPLS network correct me if I am wrong !

I feel sure that some type of static route or firewall rule should solve this and direct all traffic for the 192.168.xxx.xxx range of ip's to the 2nd router gateway instead of the internet gateway on en0 But I am not sure what rules i need to fiddle with ?

I haven't ever worked with mpls equipment so I'm not sure plus Im not really sure if I can picture what type of network setup you have.

Static Route

I have found that adding static routes work's fine and allows my remote locations to access the server no problem :
It has caused a few issues now on my local LAN but we are working through these.

I also need to understand the process required to make these routes persistent , I believe I need to write a small "simple" script and place that in the "start up" files etc , can anyone shed some light on how to do that ??

simple for some, stumped the hell outta me so far:

Stuboy,

Did this ever get resolved for you?? I too have 2 Xservs different sites. I want to know the best way to interconnect the Xserv Snow Leopard Server to ISP on each site so VPN and other services will work on OSX Server

THis way is not working for you??
Internet >>>Modem>>>xserve>>>router/Switch >>>Lan

That's what I want too. xserv has ISP IP on one nic card and other nic card has local IP off router.
email is cmanager56@hotmail.com

Let me know I'm still looking..
Thanks
