Hi all, I need to bother again regarding now a DIMM configuration on my Xserve 3.0.
I have bought this server with this DIMM configuration.

it has 8 DIMM slot, and Im confused about the DIMM population rules.

from left to right
slot 8: empty
slot 4: empty
slot 7: 2GB
slot 3: 512mb
slot 6: 2GB
slot 2: 1GB
slot 5: 2GB
slot 1: 1GB

Im running 10.5. OSX server, and the OS is only showing me 6GB of RAM.
Im not sure if all the DIMMs are OK, maybe some of them are faulty, but based on all the DIMM install on the server I should have 8.5GHZ but I think the order that DIMM are install is the issue.

Not sure if the server needs the DIMMs to be in pairs.
I think the 512MB may be causing the issue.

When I go to "server monitor" its showing me only 4 DIMMs, 2x2GB & 2X1GB = 6GB.
All the other 4 Slots are shown empty.

I don´t want to start moving DIMMs around if I don´t know the populations rules.
I was not able to find the correct service manual for this server.

Any recommendation that can provide to me on this?

I really appreciated any help.

Luis.

You need to give us a bit more info about your Xserve so we're on the same page. From the Apple Menu choose "About This Mac", then hit the "More Info..." button. This will tell you which year's lineup your particular model belongs to, and which version of OS X you're running. Those two tidbits are essential for anyone to be able to assist you. Your Xserve will be either from 2006 or 2008.

Ram has to be installed in matched pairs on your system mate. That's your issue. 1&2 and 5&6 will be seen everything else will be ignored.
