Xserve sled into Xserve RAID?

I think there's a simple answer to this - I just can't find it!

I've got an Xserve G4 that's got a full complement of drive sleds (ATA). I'm being offered an Xserve RAID that's got no drive bays in it. Can I use the drive sleds from the Xserve in the Xserve RAID? I mean from a hardware point of view, I'm prepared that I'll have to reconfigure everything from the software side.

Yes you can. The Xserve RAID uses ATA drive sleds. They never went to SATA sleds before being discontinued. The G4's also use ATA sleds. The incompatibility comes with the G5 and Intel Xserves. They use SATA sleds and won't work. The port on the back of the sled is slightly different on the SATA sleds as oppose to the ATA sleds. You should be fine though. Also remember that you will need a fiber card for your Xserve to actually connect to the RAID. Good luck
