This is something I have been waiting for, and it looks like it is finally coming this year.

Yahoo announced it is releasing a fantasy football iPhone app on September 8th, 2 days before the start of the regular season. Lets hope all goes according to plan.

Here is the press release:

This year, Yahoo! fantasy football enthusiasts will be able to track their favorite team's success right in the palm of their hands. On September 8th, Yahoo! Fantasy Football goes mobile, launching three different ways to stay on top of their game. Included in the Yahoo! Mobile offering will be an iPhone app, a BlackBerry app, and a version for the mobile web. With mobile fantasy football you can get real-time scores and player stats, the ability to bench and start different players, and even the ability to trade with others in your league - all through your mobile device.

You can already use an app called MyFanTeams to manage your yahoo fantasy teams. I have it downloaded, but haven't really used it yet because the season hasn't started. If you download the free version you can add and manage 1 fantasy team per sport, but if you pay ($2.99 I think) you get unlimited teams per sport.

How can they promise a Sept. 8 release for the iphone app? They don't control the date on which apple approves it...

This would be cool had I not joined a couple of Facebook leagues. Should be great for Yahoo FF fans, though.

Absolutely stoked! I'm a long time Yahoo Fantasy Football player, and had thought about looking at another place to play this year until they announced that stattracker was going to be free. And now to add in the iPhone app too is just icing on the cake.

I use it too. It's a pretty complete app and worth the money. I'll be at most of the Redskins games this year so I'll need some way to follow my fantasy team and this should do the trick. I'm able to change my lineup and add/drop players. I'm interested to see how well the live scoring works on it, but everything I've been able to access so far has worked well. It's a tad slow, but it's still a lot faster then going through safari and looks a lot better too.

Doesn't the web version of Yahoo FF require you to pay around $10 for the ability to get live stat tracking. (Stat Tracker?)

Is the app going to eliminate the need for me to pay that?

Apps don't necessarily get released immediately after approval.
You can set the release date.

You can set it for a month after you submit.
They approve it in 14 days, then you can adjust your actual release date.

The trick is to have it approved, before you want to release it.

There is a screenshot here, looks pretty nice: http://mobile.yahoo.com/fantasy

I work for a direct competitor (startup fantasy football provider with free live scoring and an iphone app) but I'm happy to see this coming out. The sports space is so slow to innovate, it's about time. Right now, our differentiation is in the form of free push alerts for player news and scoring updates plus facebook connect, but is that enough to hold off ESPN and Yahoo? We'll see

If you're the competitor I'm thinking of, you just got me to switch. I think the free live scoring is motivation enough for a lot of people. Couple that with the push scoring updates and I'm happy with it.

Inside the ESPN Fanstasy Football Draft Kit App (Top portion of the screen), it says ESPN Fantasy Football...coming soon to the app store.

ESPN is going to release a fantasy app that does much more than the Draft Kit hopefully next week (depending on app store approval backlog).

ah, did not realize this, but it make sense. Cool, now I'm excited. :)

I'd much prefer ESPN, but my friends all set up yahoo leagues this year.

Thank you, just picked it up. My other Fantasy team is in a CBS league, so I'm off to look into an app for that :)

It seems to have the wrong matchup info for week 1...
